"Decent value for money but no frills!"

8.0

Let me be clear: this is not a 4-star hotel (far from it) but, rather, a 'good' 2-star hotel/motel. The Econo Lodge & Suites Southern Pines served its purpose - a base for 3 nights whilst attending the US Open practice days at Pinehurst last June. I ended up here only because my first choice hotels (Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn Southern Pines) were already fully booked when making the reservation 7 months ahead of the tournament. It was a straightforward 10-15 minute drive to the shuttle bus parking lot off Sand Pit Road. Parking was free and plentiful. The check-in area, adjacent to the breakfast area, smelled of curry, which I don't mind but others might not like. Staff members were pleasant and friendly (only encountered at check-in and check-out). The 2-storey building has no elevator; stairwells are covered but not climate-controlled. My 2 double, non-smoking room was spacious, quiet and mostly clean - the laminate floor did not pass the bare-foot test! AC unit was outdated and noisy but worked OK; fridge and microwave in room. Didn't eat breakfast at the hotel so can't comment on that. Overall decent value for money but no frills.

Overall it was decent I mean you get what you pay for. Water pressure in the shower (in my room) was like spraying a water hose with a hole in it. Minus that and the stuffy smell room was fine. The breakfast could use some major work.

"Overall, please!"

To be honest, it was a busy time for us. We came in, showered, watched a bit of TV and went to bed. It was clean, smelled clean and the beds were decently comfy. Price was really reasonable for that area.

"Nice stay, for the money."

10.0

The hotel was in a convenient location. It’s a non-smoking hotel, but you can tell that the rooms were smoked in many years ago. We only noticed it when first arriving and then it quickly faded and we didn’t think about it anymore - it’s almost to be expected in older hotels that have been updated like this though. The bathrooms were small, but everything in the room was clean. The beds were bouncy, so if you toss and turn and your spouse wakes up easily, that might be a problem. Despite the proximity to the highway, it was very quiet. No EV L2 chargers or outlets, but there’s a new Tesla Supercharger under construction just down the street, so that won’t be such an issue in the near future. If you’re just passing through or only staying a couple of nights, this is a really nice option for the money.

Overnight business stay. Normally I stay away from Econo Lodges but took a chance based on recent reviews. Appears to be family run and they take great pride in making sure the location is clean. Will stay again.
