Luccombe Hall Hotel

Stunning location, with views from the dining room across the sea. Beautiful gardens. Outdoor jacuzzi with a view of the sea. Beautiful bedroom with whirlpool bath in the en-suite. Friendly staff who were always cheerful and helpful. Great breakfast. Beautiful evening meals, Well stocked bar. Retro 80’s room with free Arcade machines. Shanklin is a beautiful old English village with a walk through the historic Shanklin Chine to the promenade.

Very minor whinges: shower in en-suite was disappointing. (Especially after the amazing shower in the changing area for the outdoor pool). Towel rail in bathroom was burning hot. Shower for sauna was out of order. The jacuzzi jets were not all functioning.

The facility has a lot of amenities ( access to three heated pools with jacuzzi and sauna, games room with various games, evening singers from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm ) and beautiful sea views. The location was fantastic within 5 mins walk to village town centre and the coastal side. Hotel booking also give you 50% discount on a ferry ( ferry has to be booked by them) and free pass to the Shanklin Chine. The staff were fantastic, service with a smile, and provided everything we asked for. We felt very welcomed and will definitely rebook if we are planning a trip back to Isle of Wright. We also had food in the hotel in one of the night, from a takeaway menu, the pizza was amazing, so I can imagine the restaurant meal will be too. Their restaurant was always busy for both lunch and dinner.

My room (room 4) was far too small for the amount I paid (£1000 for three nights through booking.com WITHOUT breakfast). This was very disappointing as the room was very basic without fridge or bathrobes/slippers, which i would expect from the price. These would have been handy for going to the pool, as to access the pool, you have to go through the restaurant full of people having their meal. The room didn't have a balcony but had a side view of the sea through the window.

The lack of evening atmosphere. The entertainment finished at 9.30 so everyone had gone to bed by 10pm. Bar was closed and everywhere locked up soon after. The semi dark empty lounge felt spooky and unwelcoming, no place to sit and read etc.

Great clifftop location, with stunning ocean views. Easy walk to beach and restaurants. A room with a balcony is highly recommended. The restaurant has a small menu each evening, but the food is excellent, as is the service. Staff are very friendly and responsive to your needs.
