The spa and both indoor and outdoor pools are wonderfully indulgent, complemented by serene views across vineyards and olive groves. The Michelin-starred restaurant, Il Pievano, delivers exceptional cuisine under romantic candlelight, while attentive and warm-hearted service adds to every moment. Each room feels genuinely Tuscan—stone walls, beamed ceilings, cozy fireplaces—all paired with contemporary comforts. Mornings on the breakfast terrace offer breathtaking panoramas that awaken the senses, and the immaculate grounds invite long, relaxing strolls. A magical, unforgettable retreat—we can’t wait to return.

The jacuzzi at the spa was inoperable at the time of our visit. And I certainly needed cleaning. Also, the staff was unusually loud in spite of the fact that there is a specifically written rule stating to keep your voice amplitude down, a whisper. The staff across the entire property was kind and pleasant, however they seemed to lack the type of training a facility such as this would require. Over all the property itself, and its views are stunning. Very quiet and peaceful. But even though the staff were nice, the quality of the service was sub-par. Even though there was a Michelin restaurant on-site, one would expect the quality of the food at the other dining areas to have been at least above average. This was not the case. Breakfast had what tasted like powered eggs, waffles and pancakes were served cold, but the rest of the offerings were acceptable. Every plate we had for dinner was served late and cold. Given the price, it should have been a more complete experience, not one with as many pluses as minuses.

The gardens, the pool area and the historical nature of the castle were fantastic.

There is miscommunication about the facilities of the hotel and what you’d expect upon arrival. For instance, we stayed for two nights and there was no wine-tasting which you would expect in this place. There was only one restaurant open and the second option- Michelin star one was closed, again for a quality hotel at this level, you’d expect communication in advance. When we asked for a wine-tour option, we were suggested something very random, without much preparation. Except for two colleagues at the reception, none were interested and provided personalised service. We received a very rushed and poor induction by one of the colleagues at the reception, again something you wouldn’t expect at your arrival. My overall sense is that the hotel lacked personal touch and care. Not to mention the price of the items on the menu.

Castello di Spaltenna is one of our favorite hotels to stay at. This was actually our third time there and we expect to go back when we travel to Chianti. Our kids, 3 & 5, love staying there too, with the amazing pools and delicious food. Can't wait till next time!

The only "complaint" is we wish the beds were a little bit more comfortable, but thats really it.
