Hostal Castilla II - Puerta del Sol

My room is nicer than the promo pictures I saw. Great bed, too.

very well located near the center of historic Madrid, only a short walk from Plaza de Sol, Plaza Mayor, Palacio Real, Catedral, and many others.

WiFi was weak or didn’t work at all in the room. Beds were rock hard. No soap in bathroom. Our room was in a different building than lobby, and the staff was not helpful. The location was good; very close to what we wanted to do, but in a quiet area.

The property is quiet and safe

Hotel was very clean with friendly staff and in a brilliant location near Sol metro station with bars and restaurants close by. Rooms are a little dated but if you are like us that just want a clean, ideally located hotel, this is the one for you

The room smelled like sewage all the time. When complained to the front desk they never fixed or never offered to change the room as it was past the front desk hours. Please beware of these situations at this property as they will not come to help you.

Their rooms are in two different buildings. The rooms in one building look decent as you might see from the pictures. The rooms in the other building are something that makes you experience ancient Rome life style. Curtains are falling off. The bathroom is unusable. I told a property manager that the room looks different from what I saw from the booking site. She gave a decently remodeled room located at the other building, but a small single room although I booked a double room. I later talked a different manager. I explained my situation and asked about a possibility of partial refund since I am staying at a single room. He said “it is not my problem. It is your problem.” I have been talking with expedia about my experience. It seems like I am not getting anything back. So bad.
