This hotel was a disappointment. Inside, it has a quirky charm, but the photos make it seem as if it's brighter, bigger and better than it really is. The rooms are small, the bathrooms tiny. It has the amenities of a motel. The only public sitting area is closed most of the day (without warning, the proprietess wordlessly shut off the lights in mid-morning to let us know it was time to go)... But the biggest shock is the location. Other streets in Juan-les-Pin are lovely, palm lined and tropical... not this one. It's industrial. To get to the beach a block away, you pass through a small concrete tunnel under the railroad tracks. To get to the train station you walk 10-15 min (although the owner says it's "less than 5 min") -- not fun at night. Friends told us they loved it though: the downscale unpretentiousness, the shabby chic, even the savvy owner who joked about sex (which we heard and found kind of smarmy). We didn't.

I had previously never been called in the United States before my arrival by the proprietor of a hotel in Europe but that is what happened with Villa Nina. While the property is modest, the atmosphere and location are good, the price reasonable, and the service excellent. Good recommendations for restaurants and individualized attention.

I found the Hotel Nina to be a nice boutique hotel, a block from the beach and within walking distance from many restaurants. If you can, get a room with a balcony on the beach side. Here you'll have a tiny view of the water looking over the railroad track. Be sure to pick up a small fan to use at night to cover the train noise. The owners are lovely people as is their hotel.
