"Chateau D'agneaux a Relaxing retreat"

10.0

My wife and 2 daughters booked a room at the castle and stayed there after visiting Mont St Michael. Most of the castle was not restored and the hotel rooms are in a former wing of the castle and what appears to be the former servants' residence. Our room was the top floor of the former servants residence and we could not have been more pleased with the experience. There is a small restored church on the premises and the restaurant is in another restored building on the grounds of the estate. We enjoyed dinner in the restaurant that evening (unfortunately we did not have time to stay for breakfast as that looked like a wonderful setting). I am not a person who normally stays at upscale places but the stay was worth the cost of both the room and the meal. Most of the rooms are accessed by way of a tight winding staircase so if you can't do stairs be sure you have a ground floor unit (there may be only one of these). The front desk person in the morning did not speak much English but the girl who checked us in spoke it well enough. We arrived at the estate around 5:00 and were glad that we got there in enough time to wander the grounds and spend some time relaxing there. Our only regret was that we only stayed one night as it would be an excellent place to spend a weekend away. All of the staff there took excellent care of us. I got up early the next morning and went for a run along the river below the grounds on a well maintained path while my wife enjoyed a soak in the sunken tub. We enjoyed the large 4 post canopied bed and our daughters loved the second room in the room we had. If you are looking for a place to flop during your travels this is probably not the place for you but if you are looking for a place where you can spend some time and relax and enjoy some beautiful surroundings I would highly recommend this hotel.

"Good"

4.0

Interesting hotel out on the edge of a village near St. Lo in Normandy. We chose it because the pictures on the Website showed adorable rooms with canopied 4 poster beds and lots of space. These must have been the most expensive rooms. We reserved a standard room which was in the attic and had a bath across the hall. Never stayed in a hotel in Europe for the price without an en suite bathroom. The mini-bar in the room was two bottles of water and glasses. We decided not to stay and cancelled our reservation.

"Loved it!"

10.0

i really enjoyed my stay in this beautiful old chateau. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the room was quiet and nicely decorated, and the grounds were lovely to walk around. As it is such an old building and my room was at the top of a spiral staircase it would not be gret for older visitors or those with push chairs etc, but I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here.

"A truly French experience"

2.0

We arrived at 12:30 on Monday. Reception was empty, apart from a sign directing us to the restaurant. They told us that he would be back at 14:00. At 14:30 we checked in! The room was a dump. A television half the size of a domestic microwave; no tea or coffee making facilities; half the ceiling light bulbs missing; two camp beds to sleep on. The piece de resistance were the en suite facilities, which were in separate rooms, and which could only be accessed across a public corridor. We had to run the gauntlet of other guests passing in order to take a bath or go to the toilet. The walls were waver thin and the room badly decorated. Watching television quietly at 10 p.m., we were treated to a loud banging from the folks next door. There were beams, but one was so low that my son hit his head on it. Breakfast had to be ordered by filling out a card the previous night, and was overpriced at 12 Euros. When leaving, were asked if we enjoyed our stay, I politely said no, and was about to explain why. The look of obvious ennui in the receptionist told me not to bother. The French twist came on the breakfast menu, where Champagne and Oysters were an option. The service may be appalling, the room was barely habitable and the whole operation was run for the convenience of the people working there. But look! You can have Champagne and Oysters for breakfast! This place may look pretty, but from the bottom of my heart I urge you to avoid it like the plague! It ruined our holiday.
