Hotel Saint Jean

Awful. Cheerless and dated. We spent the night in a tiny, shabby and airless room on the top floor . Broken shutter and insect screen. Perhaps acceptable if cheap, but this misery cost us 117 euros. Only stay here if you have no alternative

See photos attached of the room. The room was unclean, the bed linen dirty, the cupboard coming off the wall and the paintwork peeling and the window shutters couldn’t shut.

Lovely central spot, generous breakfast

Room was very warm, there was noise from other rooms and the traffic noise was disturbing when the windows were open. The evening check-in guy was really unfriendly.

If you want a smart modern hotel do not come here. If you want a quirky traditional French hotel this is the place. Our spacious room looked over the river. It was in easy walking distance of the town. The female staff were lovely helpful and cheerful. Our bikes were safely stored in the hotel.

The male member of the staff was a grumpy unhelpful man who needs to change his attitude. I would have given a higher score except for his attitude.

Perfect location, old style and authentic

I love this hotel, very authentic, very French. The people who run it are delightful, the beds are great, the breakfast is good. I can recommend a stay here for all people who find big hotel chains too anonymous and bland. Here you get a little more local colour. Chalon is a great base for visiting Burgundy.

Et meget sjarmerende, familiedrevet hotell. Perfekt for oss som er en familie på 5, da vi kunne få plass til alle på samme rom (connecting rooms). Deilig frokost, hyggelig og imøtekommende personale, fredelig og rolig område med nydelig utsikt over elven. Hotellet ligger i et gammelt hus med mye sjel! Gangavstand til gode restauranter.

Excellent accueil. Petit-déjeuner copieux. L'hôtel se situe dans une ancienne demeure ayant du charme. Des travaux seraient nécessaires pour le maintenir en bon état. Voir notamment des finitions à réaliser dans la salle de bain.
