Hotel Montana Zürich

The breakfast was ok in terms of offerings and they had fresh baked bread every day which made it the best part about the breakfast. The staff were really nice and helpful but the place needs a renovation. The location was the best thing about this place.

The bed was not comfortable and the pillows were really bad. We requested more pillows but it didn’t make a difference. The shower curtain had black mold on them which could have been easily replaced. The shower pressure is really good when there is hot water. We had 2/3 nights with room temperature water. The hallways on our side (the older side) had no lights. Oh and there’s air conditioning only a weak fan in the room.

It's in a great location and there's a Nespresso machine in the room. Those are the only upsides.

I booked the 'deluxe double room' and, honestly, it was a complete letdown. The carpet was filthy, dusty, and stained. The walls were dirty, and the tables and armchairs were covered in dust. The toilet was stained and yellowing. The shower curtain was moldy—absolutely disgusting. Even the glasses by the sink were dirty. The place is so dusty that after just one night, you'll wake up with an allergy flare-up, even if you don't normally have allergies. The hygiene here is terrible.

Hotel reception was very clean and tidy, the room and bathroom however were more tired and dated. There were several tiles cracked and broken in the bathroom and some the walls had seen better days with paint and plaster board missing. The main issue was the temperature in the room, it was so hot we struggled to sleep, only option was to open the window which was loud as the street was busy. Only stayed for one night so was ok and location for train station was great.

This hotel is conveniently located near the central train station in Zurich. There are 3 or 4 restaurants within easy walking distance (under 5 min) of the hotel. The rooms of the hotel are small. We had one with stained furniture and no handles on the armoire. The other was a little more modern but even smaller than our first room. Electrical outlets for charging a device are scarce. The breakfast buffet is just adequate. Hotel staff are pleasant and helpful. It is an OK hotel but overpriced for what you get. But that of course is Switzerland.

Location, price, value. Everything was fantastic in that regard.

The only negative was the pillows. One pillow each, and they sunk in so much that it basically was not a pillow. Even folding the pillow over on itself was not very helpful. Not a big deal, but enough to notice.

Shower glass wall shattered down when I was taking a shower. Luckily I only got some minor cuts. I was given another room without delay.
