Hotel Van Belle

Clean, modern, spacious (enough), and friendly and flexible service. Affordable than most other hotels of the same quality.

The only problem is the location. The neighborhood is dirty and does not feel safe walking alone at night.

Breakfast was amazing

Location. Not a nice area

Be very careful when booking a room at this hotel. I mistakenly booked a room through a third party website thinking the hotel was in Ghent, and within 5 minutes of getting the confirmation I realised it was actually located in Brussels, which I was not planning on travelling to. My mistake. I immediately reached out to the hotel and third party company, thinking that since it was within 30 minutes of me making the accidental booking they could quickly cancel it for me, without my credit card being charged. It took the hotel a day to respond and when they did they simply stated that the room I booked was considered a special non-refundable rate and so while I could cancel the booking I would lose all my money for it. They suggested I reach out to the third party I booked with to try alternative options. So I did. The third party company assigned one of their agents to the case as they said that they could refund me if they were able to negotiate with the hotel, as the hotel would be provided my payment through the third party, so they hadn't even received it yet. Basically they just needed permission. Three days later I hear back from the third party company that they made three attempts to get in contact with someone at the hotel about the refund issue and the hotel basically ghosted them, ignoring all contact attempts. So now the hotel basically took hundreds of dollars from me for a room in a city I'm not even going to because of a silly mistake I made, which I tried to correct as quickly as possible. I would have been more than happy to pay a cancellation fee or something like that, or even get a partial refund, but that was completely off the table for them. Save your money and book at a different hotel or be absolutely certain you won't have to cancel or change plans, unless you want to lose your money.
