"Overly long visit to Lucca"

6.0

Planned to spend three days in Lucca but left after two, only to go to Rome and get robbed by some gypsies in the subway! This is more an Airbnb property than a typical Expedia option. My host, who was friendly, was not set up to take credit cards and so I gave him cash. Also, the apartment which was more than adequate is up quite a few flights of stairs with no elevator so again like a lot of properties be careful if you're handicap or having trouble doing stairs.

"Not a B&B!"

6.0

We booked this hotel when we arrived in Lucca and no one was there when we arrived. After numerous calls an emails to the owner we got through and had to wait over an hour for the housekeeper to come and let us in. It's so close to the main piazza though that we were able to enjoy a drink and people watch while we waited. The room was very nice but we were told in the morning when the owner came to collect our money that breakfast wasn't included in our booking which as it's advertised as a B&B I felt a bit cheated.

"Great location"

8.0

Great location, nice owners, good common area for eating breakfast. Minuses: Room needed some fixes and a mixup on checkin left us waiting outside for a bit. Also up four flights of stairs, though owner helped with luggage.

"We had a great stay."

10.0

Great location in the center of the old city. Wonderful staff, flexible and good recommendations regarding where to eat and what to seee. A charming interior space. Excellent and easy Internet access. A good breakfast. The only caution I would have is that you have to go up a few flights of steps to get to Casa Alba.

"Great location, great experience"

10.0

This hotel is made up of 4 apartments converted into a cute little b&b. Rooms are smallish but fine for short stays, and its great location make up for it. We had a hire car, and Guiseppe (who runs the hotel with his girlfriend) was a great help with car parking info, and a permit to enter inside the town walls to drop off out luggage. He also recommended a great little restaurant that only the locals know about, amazing food, and cheap. Breakfast was prepared by Guiseppe in the morning, fresh coffe and baked cakes and bread. Unfortunately we only had 1 night in Lucca.

"MMR"

10.0

Casa Alba is an excellent B&B, superbly located in the centre of historic Lucca. It is in the pedstrian zone, but all rooms are three floors above the street and face a quiet inner courtyard - so quiet. Rooms are small but clean - and everything works. Staff (mainly Giuseppe) were efficient and very helpful. His restaurant tips were outstanding - great cuisine & vino at affordable prices. No hesitation in recommending CA to anyone who doesn't need a palatial suite - but just warm hospitality in a perfect location.

"Exceptional"

10.0

Great location and very accommodating during our stay. We loved Lucca and regret not staying longer. Casa Alba was right in the middle of everything and we felt very welcome there. There are alot of steps to the room but that is the charm of staying in an old town. Lucca is a delightful city to explore!

Basic but very clean hotel in an excellent location, surrounded by shops and bars. Very good value for the price paid and would stay here again.

"Very disappointing stay"

4.0

While the location of this hotel is good, I felt the proprietor was not very organized. She only emailed me the night before my arrival to find out what time I would be arriving. When you are in Italy because you are on vacation, one shouldn't expect that you'd have regular email access. That said, I happened to check email the day I was going to be checking in to Casa Alba and replied that I would still be arriving that night. I even called her once we reached Lucca because we needed to find out where we should park our rental car. It was only then that the proprietor told us she wasn't there to check us in and that she was sending someone else over to do so. We ended up having to wait 1/2 an hour outside the hotel, standing with our luggage. In addition, the parking instructions the proprietor had given us were very unclear. We later had to go back outside the city walls to re-park our car once the woman who did check us in gave us clearer directions for the parking. On top of all of that, check out was 10am! I've never heard of such an early check out time. We needed to keep our bags there while we explored the town and the proprietor had us put them in the lobby area -- but it was clear she was not staying on site, and everyone else staying at Casa Alba would walk by our bags as they came in and out the front door. We took a chance that it would be safe, and luckily it turned out to be, but it was far from ideal. I cannot recommend this place to others.
