"A little bit of heaven"

10.0

Vila Ventura an aparthotel in Canico Baixa. A small establishment of 21 rooms over 2 floors caters for adults only. The rooms are large with their own balcony, bathroom/shower, double/twin beds and a small kitchenette. All rooms have a television. There is no swimming pool here. The aparthotel is situated on a 'cul-de-sac' overlooked by other hotels. Within walking distance of a sea front promenade shops and restaurants. I loved the quaintness of the hotel. If you want somewhere quiet to stay and you're not too bothered about the night life I would recommend Vila Ventura. Our board included Bed and Breakfast this was a continental breakfast on a buffet basis served between 8 and 10 daily. Breakfast was adequate and overseen by very nice kitchen staff who were very eager to please. The Garden Restaurant attached is very popular serving fresh meat and fish daily lunchtime and evening menu very reasonably priced. Bar and restaurant staff welcome you warmly and make you feel at ease. We were the only English visitors and were made to feel very special in a predominantly German area. There is a regular bus service to shopping centre in Canico which is the next 'village' up the hill and also to Funchal the main shopping area and harbour. The bus rides are an experience in themselves as the drivers negotiate the winding roads and 8% hills which feel like a roller coaster. There isn't an awful lot to do in the immediate area. You need to travel away from the accommodation for entertainment. The receptionists are more than happy to organise day trips and offer advice to local sights and places of interest. This was a trip we had wanted to do for a long time we now wish we had made it sooner. Madeira is a beautiful island but very hilly. If you have difficulty walking I would not recommend a visit. A must do is a ride on the cable cars from Funchal up the side of the coastal hills to experience the views, botanical gardens and the traditional 'sledge ride' (a must to watch if not experience).

"Best of three stars..."

8.0

Stayed 2 weeks in this hotel with my wife. The management and staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms were spacious and perfectly clean, the bathroom features a big shower and a bidet, the balcony offered a great view of the sea and the Ilhas Desertas. A small kitchenette with fridge allowed us to prepare a light dinner to enjoy on the terrace under the stars... The hotel is rated three stars, and it's definitely worth more. Prices are very reasonable, and we enjoyed our time there. Only suggestion to the owners: get different pillows. They are too small and stuffed with some strange filling that form lumps and is most irritating for your neck.

"good location, friendly staff"

10.0

we stayed for a week in this small hotel which provides also a small kitchen in the room. It's not right next to the beach, but after a short walk you are there. we went to the neighbour hotel to have a swim, we had just to pay some Euros.

"Very good small hotel!"

Clean, well equipped kitchenette, balcony, immacualte bathroom, well positioned near bus stop, helpful staff, great restaurant. I'd read previous TA reviews and booked based on these and am glad I did.
