There are places that, by their mere existence, make a compelling argument for the traveller’s vigilance. Quinta dos Caracois is a accomplished example. The apartment exudes a persistent smell of mould and damp, bathes in a melancholic dimness, and displays furniture whose antiquity evokes less a tourist accommodation than an estate inventory awaiting probate. A busy dual carriageway, absent from the listing, provides a continuous and generous soundtrack. A makeshift rubbish dump gracefully completes the picture at the foot of the residence. We were naive enough to mention this to the owners. The proprietress concluded our exchange with a formula of admirable brevity: “that’s your problem.” The proprietor, for his part, opted for a more dynamic approach presenting himself to us in a threatening manner, invoking the police and eviction, on the grounds that we had dared to file a complaint. We did not raise our voices. We observed. Recent reviews of this establishment on this platform paint a remarkably consistent picture. We invite every traveller to consult them before making any decision and to draw, calmly, their own conclusions.

Las luces de muy poca potencia, iluminación muy triste. Eramos 4 mujeres adultas, contábamos con el sofá cama que especificaba nuestra reserva reserva pero cuando llegamos no había sofá cama. Nos ofrecieron una cama plegable muy pequeña con colchon de espuma fino. El acceso es dificil con el coche, una rampa muy empinada que dificulta entrada, aparcamiento y salida

The property is ideally located for access by car to Lagos and Luz. Most sensible people google a property to check out its location and availability of facilities nearby to see if it suits them and their needs. Ample space for 4 to relax and wind down. As a regular traveller I always pack adapters and an odd extension lead to plug in all the phone chargers and the like which we drag around in our luggage. Anyone heard of the 5 P’s, look it up! Freezer wasn’t mentioned in the write up only a fridge but was very handy. Pool and gardens are well managed and added to the ambience. Parking right next door to the property allowed the easy transfer of baggage to the property. The owner was easily contacted by phone should the need arise. Ample bedding to suit all conditions, comfy and clean.

The bathrooms could do with an extractor fan or as a minimum an opening window. Otherwise alls well.
