"Great stay for Christmas markets"

10.0

The staff were very friendly and helpful, which was great as we do not speak German. The room was very quaint which fitted in with the rest of the hotel, which is steeped in history. They have their own vineyard and will happily let you sample their wine.

"Perfect area"

10.0

We did the suite and loved our stay. No complaints. It is the perfect area to see everything. If coming in by train make sure you go the extra stop after the main Heidelberg station to the Heidelberg Altstat. Ending of word may not be spelled but it is the next stop after Heidelberg Hbf and my take on the German word was alternate. It takes you within a block or two from the walk bridge so get off train look at water and walk left to the bridge. Once across cross street go left to first road, Hirschgasse and climb hill third building up the hill on the left. Sign on road and building sits in plain site. Owners great. Food in their lower priced restaurant very very good. High end more duck, sweetbread type food and expensive. They are known for their food too. If going to Heidelberg this the place to stay. Also the beginning of the town starts at the walk bridge on train station side of bridge and heads right toward castle. It is a long road of shops... Easy access to castle via funicular which is just up hill from main shopping road. You will see big sign with a train pic and bahn as you walk the main road and look up toward castle as you meet each intersection. You walk town as far as car bridge with the two tower entrance and the good luck monkey. Don't forget to take your iPad on city walk and stop in Starbucks to get 2 hours free wifi and bathroom code on receipt. Stayed same the 3 days we were there.

"An absolute world-class gem!"

10.0

We came to see the Heidelberg Castle and decided to stay at this hotel. Next trip this hotel will be the focus of our trip instead of the castle. This is an amazing hotel. The staff is amazing. Every tiny detail was considered and the best possible option was chosen. Attention to detail doesn't really describe the pure luxury this hotel provides. Character, history, luxury, service, etc. There are no flaws in the hotel, in the restaurants, in anything! The"large breakfast" was nothing short of amazing! There must have been at least 40 different parts to it. I didn't even eat one of the artisan breads because it was simply too beautiful to bite into! Had amazing venison for dinner, wife had amazing vegetarian salad. Spot-on perfect! The location is really great. Get up a little early and get some photos of the water at dawn. The light is incredible and it is so peaceful. The castle is a must see and the old town was delightful. The train to Paris... that's another thing. I'm really surprised that we didn't end up in Portugal or Siberia or something!!!

Very friendly and helpful staff, gorgeous rooms albeit with an antiquated TV, great location away from the bustle but not too far from the main attractions.

"With Reservations"

6.0

Very nice place. Beautiful room with modern bath and comfortable. Arrived Sunday but restaurant is closed on Sundays. We were sent to a wonderful restaurant in town. The next day we ate at the hotel and I wish it had been closed on Mondays as well. We left before 6am for the airport and could not even get a cup of coffee since the staff does not arrive before 6. Nice staff though not very well trained.

"Happy in Heidelberg"

2.0

The road repair another guest has complained about was no problem for me in Early April 2011. I am not a fan of an earlier guest who carved his name into the table: Otto Von Bismark, but you don't have to be to like the hotel. The best however is the the dinner in the restaurant. First class. Make sure to take an afternoon walk above Heidelberg on the Philosophers path that starts close to the hotel. A nice sun set makes a good photo opportunity with the Schloss in focus of the warm light of the sunset.

"would not return"

6.0

Hotel was absolutely beautiful but due to street construction next to hotel it was EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to get there. It was also very difficult to find. At one point we were trapped at the hotel and could not drive off the premises because of street contruction in ALL directions. It was ridiculous. There was NO air conditioning which was quite surprising for the price of the rooms. Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful.
