Hotel Union

I was over in Belgrade to see the Eurovision Song Contest & booked the Union Hotel via Expedia a few months in advance. Was somewhat concerned based on the comments in Trip Advisor, but stuck with our original plans. The Hotel is located in a quiet street less than 10 mins walk from many of the main squares, eating & shopping areas in Belgrade. The lobby area is pretty dark & yes there is only one tiny lift, but it works just fine. We paid €124.00 B&B for our room & it was fairly sizeable and more importantly - clean. The rooms are very basic & certainly could do with a level of refurbishment, but ours was just fine for a few days visit. We had no problems with hot water, however there were no plugs available for the sink or bath & as such a lot of water was wasted, which may have impacted others! The breakfast choice was relatively limited, but the food was OK. The waiters were efficient, but not particularly friendly. However the reception staff were both efficient & friendly. If I was going back over to Belgrade for a couple of days holiday then I probably would consider the Union Hotel once again as the location was so perfect & the accommodation itself acceptable. It is a very old Hotel, but certainly not the pit many Trip Advisor contributors have suggested!

This hotel is on a quiet street just a block away from Trg Republike (Republic Square), one of Belgrade's main squares. It is also withing walking distance to Knez Mihalova street (10 minutes), Parliament (5 minutes), Kalmegdan (15 minutes) and Skardilja street (10 minutes). So an amazing location compared to expensive hotels (like Hyatt) in Novi Beograd. The staff was friendly. There is free wireless internet in all areas of the hotel! The breakfast, which was included, was not bad at all. The gentleman at the front desk who works the night shift was very helpful in recommending bars, clubs and restaurants. There is one tiny elevator from Tito's era but it is funtional. The rooms are clean but very old and run worn out (the only negative). And there is no iron in the room.
