Quinta de Sao Thiago

The hotel doesn't exist as a hotel. just a sign outside. They stole my money. You cant get there by car. No lighting outside. Just a building. Do not book with this ghost hotel.

Gorgeous old family home full of character, ornaments and photos. Lovely views and garden. Fantastic breakfast in real old dining room. Delicious pastel del nata. Would be good to take whole property, in summer with own chef. Lots of private seating areas. Fabulous courtyard with tank. Pool if warm.

Access road almost lethal, washed away at sides, precipitous and horrible in hire car. Property looked closed and uninviting, and was locked despite my long held booking and email with indication of arrival. Maid put head out of window then let us in, spoke no English, pointed to signs. She enjoyed the beautiful library for tv, but it had “No Entry” sign to guests. It was such a pity as it felt unloved and creepy and we did not want to stay or face the drive in and out of Sintra. No bar or food on site. Complete absence of staff .

Mooi historisch gebouw. Prachtige accomodatie en de ligging en uitzicht is echt heel erg mooi. Ook het ontbijt en de vriendelijkheid waren goed. Maar....

Het is erg jammer dat er zo veel kapot is. De tuinstoelen buiten zitten vol gaten. Zwembad is hier en daar beschadigd. Lampen aan elkaar geplakt. Maar vooral het bed vonden we niet fijn. Je hebt het idee dat je er ieder moment door kan zakken en het matras was niet goed. Ook de afmeting van het matras was groter dan het bedframe, waardoor die uitsteekt aan de zijkanten.

We checked in and didn’t have a very smooth check in process. The place was musty and windows couldn’t be kept open easily because of bugs. No air conditioning. We went out for dinner and returned. Once in bed, we discovered our two rooms were INFESTED with bed bugs. In the few hours we were in bed before realizing, my family suffered hundreds of bites. After this, we couldn’t get a hold of anyone who spoke English or the host for many hours and eventually decided to leave to go elsewhere because we were offered a different room and didn’t feel comfortable staying here. We asked for a refund and didn’t receive one. We spent $500 for a room we never slept a full night in and the host never even bothered to contact us back after we left a note. We noticed bedbugs CRAWLING on the walls in certain places. This was the worst experience I’ve had in any accommodation after 5 trips to Europe. Totally ruined our Sintra trip as we weren’t able to find another hotel in the area. I would not recommend the service or hotel to anyone and I am having to contact my credit card company to attempt to get out money back because Expedia wouldn’t help us out either/honour a refund. I have never written a negative review, but please save your money and skip this place!
