Very central, staff were very friendly and helpful

Salle de bain vieillotte, robinets fuient , commodités ( coton tige, savon, shampoing, etc ) non renouvelés chaque jour, obligés de demander à l'acceuil. A l'arrivée, j'avais demandé un parking, qui était indisponible car occupé par le personnel. J'ai dû attendre 2h la fin de leur service ! Personnel de ménage désagréable.

The location was great!

I appreciate that the hotel aims to preserve its historic character and old-style charm, however, there’s a difference between maintaining history and simply letting things age without care. Unfortunately, the property felt more neglected than nostalgic. There’s no harm in refreshing the space while still keeping its heritage intact. Instead, it felt tired and worn, which took away from the overall experience. For the price, I expected much better upkeep, it’s a 5 star hotel and one of the most expensive in that area. A bit of maintenance and thoughtful updates wouldn’t take away from the character — it would actually enhance it. … and the lack of proper hospitality. The staff seemed untrained and disinterested. The man at reception didn’t even offer to help with my 25kg luggage, despite the fact that I had to carry it down a few stairs. It was a small but telling moment that summed up the lack of attention to guests and there were numerous moments like this throughout our stay. As it stands, it just didn’t feel worth the money.

This is not a 5 star hotel, more like a 3 in any normal environment (and then only if tidied up a lot). In order to be fair, I will list the positives and negatives. Positive: location, charm and overall ambiance- if you like a slightly dated, slightly shabby feel. Negative: the bathroom was a disgrace for a hotel aspiring to be 5 stars. Towel rail‘s (which obviously did not work) electrical connection severed at the wall with possible live wire potentially exposed, plastic fitting sellotaped to the rail. Electrical socket directly over bath/ shower!! Shower curtain fixed to the wall insecurely. Shabby, not thoroughly cleaned. Coffee machine in room looked as if it had cost 20 euros . If you wanted more than 2 coffees you had to pay for the extra sachets - unbelievable at the room rates being charged. Staff were pleasant and helpful but those we met were obviously inexperienced and poorly trained. In summary, it looks as if there has been very limited proper maintenance carried out on the rooms in this hotel for a long time ( I have seen these problems highlighted in reviews on other sites for different rooms, so they are not just a one-off). Some of the things we saw are potentially dangerous. If the owners invested in bringing the rooms to a decent standard, this could indeed be a lovely hotel. The cheapskate attitude towards things like the coffee machine and rationed supplies does not indicate that this is likely.

We stayed here for one night in a last minute booking for Sintra. The room and breakfast cost about £120. The hotel is traditional, but in very good way. It is very central and full of character. Within walking distance to many of the attractions. The whole place is spotless, characterful and the staff were welcoming and helpful. Frankly, we had booked and expected something worn and run down and we're really happily surprised. We would return again and recommend to others. Reception - smooth and straightforward. Staff helped with ad hoc queries during our stay. Room - clean and spotless. Effective air con. Huge four poster bed! There was a fridge and coffee maker. The bed was firm (good) with good pillows. There was also a pillow menu. The room was quiet. The shutters and curtains blocked light well. We had an excellent night sleep. Bathroom - again, spotless. Plenty of powerful hot water in the shower. There was a bidet. Miniature shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion. Breakfast - this was truly epic. Fantastic selection with really ripe and tasty fruit skewers, a good cooked selection, a good array of cheeses and meats. We would genuinely pay to do this as a buffet in its own right. Other - we were able to leave our bags at the hotel once we had checked out. Parking is a pain (this is not the fault of the hotel). Summary: we had a lovely and relaxing stay, with an excellent night sleep. We recommend this place.

My husband and I spent one night in Sintra, which is not enough, after celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary traveling through Portugal. This was our final night and what an absolute treat! Perfect location and we were able to grab one of the three parking spots out front which was a true gift. This hotel is so special and Sintra is unbelievably beautiful.

Absolutely loved our stay.

Absolutely delightful historic place to stay within easy walking distance of historic Sintra. The service was exceptional, and our room was a fantastic combination of historic, comfortable, spacious, and fun. We spent two nights and could have easily spent additional nights exploring the beautiful area with our hotel, being exceptionally well situated in the midst of this historic district
