Hotel Hacienda del Cardenal

This place is really a pretend Parador! It has glorous gardens and is set within the old city walls. The hotel is grand in a slightly faded manner, and my single room large enough for a 3/4 bed. The breakfast is impressive, and the 2 small pools fun if you are so inclied. There is a new and old section - the latter being more atmospheric. It is a short walk from the excalators to the top of the old city. Staff and charming and helpful. In all, a top stay with just a few minor issues: a pity the shower prssure wasn't stronger, and what a shame the restaurant is not open in the eveings except for around weekends. Ditto the bar, which closes early - so evening drinks in the must see gardens not a possibility most nights. A great shame.

The building was beautiful and set inside the city walls. The gardens and outside areas were lovely, cool and spacious. The breakfast which was included in the price was excellent and they were even able to provide me with gluten free bread on request.

Ubicación e instalaciones.

I first came to the Cardinale over 30 years ago and had a lovely experience. The hotel occupies a former Cardinal's residence located in the wall of the city and is in a great location if you are traveling to Toledo. The rooms were clean, but a bit sparse in the new wing where we stayed. If I were returning, I'd be sure to ask for a room in the older portion of the hotel.

The hotel has recently undergone an addition and in my opinion this addition has detracted from the character of the historic older hotel a bit. The changes now require a somewhat bewildering path to get from outside to the reception area and then from there to the rooms in the newer portion of the hotel. Maybe it's my age, but some additional signage clearly indicating how to "navigate" through the hotel would be very helpful. The staff also seemed a bit stressed. I left wondering if the addition was recent and if there hasn't been sufficient time for things to "settle in" and for staff to become familiar with the changes.
