"Mysigt landsbygdshotell"

8.0

"Better than average"

A comfortable stop on our way north with a delightful restaurant across the square. The Abbey is well worth visiting and very handy!

"Hôtel agréable"

10.0

"Lovely venue"

8.0

We had a lovely stay at Abbatis Villa Hôtel Jean de Bruges, very friendly service. Our only gripe being that we arrived shortly before 8pm and there were not any restaurants / cafes open to get a bite to eat so we went without. We were leaving early the following morning and we had a lovely breakfast. Stunning view from our room!

"a unique building in a stunning location"

8.0

This is a small, comfortable, modern hotel in a wonderful ancient building, next to a medieval abbey, off the quiet town square of a traditional french town. Despite arriving very late, we were made to feel welcome and enjoyed our one night in the clean room. It was just the interesting stop we needed halfway between Calais and Paris.

"Convenient stop between Paris and Calais"

4.0

After calling ahead to let the hotel know we'd be arriving late, I was surprised to be cut off because the owner was preparing drinks. After another call the complicated entry process was explained. When we found the hotel we managed to get in, and one of us had to stay inside while I ferried bags from the car, as the only way in is by intercom to the owner out of hours. I'd booked a twin room, but we had a double, and two of the bathroom fitments were hanging down from the wall. Decor was pleasant but simple for the price, and the pillows consist of small pieces of foam that compress after a short time and don't give very much support. knowing in advance that the breakfast was poor and overpriced, we declined, although we were asked twice. Checkout was very businesslike and not at all friendly, much like the previous night's telephone calls. In all, the hotel looks lovely from outside, has potential to be great, but is overpriced for what is mostly ordinary accommodation and the owner gives the impression of being in it for the profit instead of providing a pleasant experience. If you want breakfast, there's a great Boulangerie and cafe 50m away that are a bargain!

"The perfect location .....but"

6.0

The hotel is in a lovely village square, and the hotel itself is very well kept, clean, polished wood. Bedroom( 4) plenty of space, comfotable bed, small pillows, but that is a french thing!!! adequate bathroom with shower over bath, mini bar but no kettle etc. I suspect there was only another room occupied when we were there so it was quiet...not a problem. Breakfast was fine, fresh bread and croissants, fruit, yogurts, cold meats cheese. Coffee and tea served by waitress/chambermaid/receptionist. There is no restaurant but across the square 3 cafes/restaurants were there, we went to the cafe and had a superb french meal. All that said, I felt that the hotel lacked atmosphere the lady who greeted us was polite but reserved and I felt that we were intruding. Whilst we like peace this was a bit too peaceful
