AS São João da Madeira

This small hotel is on a vast plaza which is a concrete sphere with two Café bars on it, otherwise it's like a large pedestrian roundabout leading to five streets into the commercial district and not very attractive but functional. The hotel is in an ideal location close to some high end shops, famous Hat and Shoe Museum which I thoroughly recommend. There's an Art Museum nearby which had an exhibition on of Brut Art. The only disappointment was that the town is completely modern and no old buildings. There is a pretty plaza with a church and bar nearby in a small garden. My long shaped room had a twin room with an adjoining room with a third bed and an adequate bathroom, all spotlessly clean. There is no restaurant but for my half board, I got a card to take to a very nice restaurant nearby called Ponto Zero, where I had a nice meal on two nights. Breakfast was in a canteen style room with the usual fare of cold meats and cheese, breads, cakes and cereals.

Nothing fancy about this place but everything was clean and worked. We partnered up and grabbed a double room. It even had a large deck opposite the main square. Our clothes hung outside and dried fast with the wind. The wifi worked in the room. It was great at night but spotty in the morning. Breakfast was tasty. I'd come back to this place!

I spent 3 days in this hotel in a business trip. For situations like this it is ok. Has nothing special, but efficient check-in/check-out; large room, clean;breakfast good enough; fast wi-fi. The location is excellent, at walking distance to many different restaurants. Price is good. I´d go back.

The front desk ladies were very nice so as a lady prepared breakfast. The breakfast was plenty and cozy.

excellent hotel, great little find and a good alternative to central Porto. Staff on front desk were first rate. Nearby cafes and bars offer good variety of food and drink. Car park was free but in the depths under the building and quite cramped, small cars only! Would recommend 100%

A few issues with check-in resulting from problems with Hotels.com, but Sonia at reception handled them professionally and well. A very nice room for the price and an excellent breakfast.

This is not a luxury hotel, but is conveniently placed in the centre of Sao Joao da Madeira, has car parking, wi-fi and breakfast all included in the very cheap rating. The rooms are acceptable and clean. The breakfast is also quite acceptable, I was expecting much worse for the price, although the breakfast room is really small and can easily become full. My 4 point rating is for the excellent calue for money.

Good value stay on Camino Helpful staff Decent breakfast

I spent 3 nights on this hotel. The staff is very pleasant, the location is very good (São João da Madeira is a very nice place). It's next to a small shopping mall, near another huge one, as well as to a gas station and a lot of restaurants and bars. Breakfast is not amazing but is enough, and included in the price. You do have a lot of options just outside the hotel. The reception is usually empty as the person there does a lot on the hotel. Parking is free but is really bad. The entry to the underground parking lot is very steep and you need to go down 3 floors. I scratched the bottom of my car on one of the descends on the first night and decided not to put my car there again for the rest of the stay. All in all is a very cosy, cheap, reasonable hotel in a very nice location.

Very good value for the money : 33 euros for a double room. It s very cheap ! Nice and smiling staff, english and french speaking. This hôtel is downtown in Sao Joao da Madeira Rooms have big balcony with nice view over Sao Joao da Madeira.
