Hampton Inn & Suites Smithfield

The staff was inattentive and the facility was poorly ran. The staff was on their cell phones 90% of the time we observed them.

We had one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever encountered at this Hampton Inn & Suites. We arrived around 2 a.m., exhausted from travel, and didn’t fully notice the condition of the room until the next morning — and what we found was completely unacceptable. The room was filthy. Trash from a previous guest was left behind, and there were disturbing white liquid stains on the furniture and picture frames. The headboard looked damaged, with a large gouge or hole that had been lazily and poorly patched. The furniture was stained, the mirrors were grimy, and the floor was so dirty we didn’t feel comfortable walking barefoot. When we moved a chair, we found a stack of dirty linens shoved into the corner — something no guest should ever have to see. The bathroom was equally appalling: hair from a previous guest still on the floor, a shower that was peeling and visibly deteriorated, and worst of all, the shower door fell off while trying to use it — a major safety hazard. It honestly felt like the room had been ignored completely by housekeeping, aside from swapping out the towels and sheets. We reported the condition of the room to the front desk, and to their credit, the staff was kind and apologetic. They moved us to a cleaner room, which we appreciated. However, even in the second room, the hotel’s need for renovations was clear. The shower rod was loose, there were visible cracks in the walls, and the overall appearance was dated and worn. It still didn’t feel like a room that met Hampton or Hilton standards. What made this worse was the lack of any compensation — no refund, no discount — despite the health and safety concerns we raised and how truly uncomfortable our experience was. We left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and frankly, gross. We expected much better from a Hampton Inn & Suites. This property needs a serious deep clean and significant updates. Until that happens, we will not be returning — and we urge others to look elsewhere unless changes are made.

Shower needs updated along with toiletries were empty

This hotel is nice, clean, spacious and comfortable. The pillows sucked as per usual for every hotel I stay but I just take my own. The chair at the desk was disgusting!!! It was so dirty I'd be ashamed if it was something I owned. Staff girl was NOT friendly!

Nothing was likable about this hotel. When I arrived it was late due to me leaving straight from work to travel here. I waited outside in the vestibule to get into the property for at least 30 minutes. I had to call a family member who was already inside of the hotel from her room to let me into the lobby. The first night I was already on edge due to the hotel being dated with the furniture and things like that. The following morning my cousin found bed bugs in her room and was switched to another room with a full refund. That same night I found a bed bug on the edge of my bed. I immediately called the front desk and was told that they would switch me to another room. They only took off $100 from the $506 that I paid for my two nights stay. My family member was told to not book through a third party, and to book only through the hotel next time. Reason being, is that when people book through a third party they get rooms that was set aside specifically for them. I would never be staying with this property again. I asked when was the hotel last renovated, and the staff told me that it hasn’t been renovated.

DO NOT STAY! BED BUG INFESTED!!!! This was by far the worst stay I’ve ever had in a hotel. I woke up to bugs crawling in the bed. I immediately called the front desk for someone to come and confirm what feared. I will say, the front desk attendant was absolutely wonderful in dealing with the situation. The housekeeping manager or whoever she was on the other hand was an absolute mess. She kept saying the bedding was brand new. The front desk attendant had to tell her at least twice, it’s not the bedding. These bugs are in the creases of the mattress. Then she had the nerve to keep insinuating I brought them with me. I also had a family member staying on a totally different floor also experience the same. I called corporate to advise that this hotel is absolutely disgusting and needs to be renovated immediately. The furniture is all stained, the carpet is torn, the walls are stained, fixtures are broken and should cease operation immediately!

out entire wedding party was able to stay in one place and when there was a problem with a schedule room they were able to fix it without an issue
