I stayed from 4-8 November for business. First room smelled like dog urine and strong mold. It hit me like a brick wall and I couldn’t even enter the room. Requested another room and front desk rep didn’t respond when I told him what was going on, he just handed me a new room key. I thought this was odd. Second room smelled the same, just not as strong but strong enough to not want to unpack for fear my clothes would smell. I requested a 3rd room. The new rep was very kind and offered me a few alternatives. It was close to midnight (I had to leave the hotel for a late evening site visit). I didn’t leave any luggage in room # 2. Room three was not perfect, AC was not working but maintenance fixed immediately. The room slightly smelled but nowhere close to the first two. It was after midnight and I stayed. The plan was to leave in the morning but there were no hotels with availability (Marriott or Hilton) I am not sure what was going on in the McAllen area but the hotels were full. I was only in the room to sleep and did remove my bags daily. PROS: There were some positives. Each day the room was cleaned and aside from the smell (which housekeeping had no control over) the room was always cleaned well beyond expected. Housekeeping was phenomenal. The hotel was very quiet. It is located on a busy road with lots of shops so one might expect some noise, but incredibly enough (on ground floor) no noise. Location was great. There were a number of restaurants and shops (TJ Max, Academy Sports and Target to name a few). This was nice and useful when I had to pick up a few items. The woman who worked the front desk in the evening was very kind, attentive, and professional. When I explained the situation with the first two rooms she offered a few rooms and told me the hotel was going to be at capacity soon so it was important I get into a new room asap. Maintenance was at the room fixing the AC within a minute of me opening the door (literally). I am not one to be difficult. I was in the Army for 20 years so I’ve slept in some less than desirable places. I am probably not picky enough to be honest. So for me to request different rooms twice is a clear indicator that something was wrong. If this hotel could get rid of the carpets entirely (as most hotels have done) this review might look different. It’s a fairly new hotel and the carpet was without a doubt holding on to that smell (dog, mold, and notes of stinky feet). I wouldn’t walk on it barefoot. Get rid of the carpets and it’s not bad at all.

Everything about this place is great! There's a Country Cracker Barrel literally next door, and it's about less than a mile from the McAllen Convention Center, with shopping and restaurants nearby. What I would highly recommend is for this hotel to please, please, PLEASE make better coffee for the continental breakfast. Thanks!

Very good

I stayed at SpringHill Suites McAllen Convention Center while traveling for business, and the experience was mediocre. The hotel could definitely use some TLC, as it feels a bit dated and in need of updates, in my opinion. It was also noisier than I expected, both over the weekend and during the week, which made it a bit challenging to focus and relax. On a positive note, the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, which helped improve the stay. With some updates to the property and better noise management, this could be a much better option for business.

Sadly, the staff in the lobby weren’t kid-friendly… everything was a constant complaint, and I consider us as a family who is always aware of our kids behavior
