Mövenpick Asara Resort & Spa Hua Hin

We spent a few days at the Asara resort eleven years ago and had a wonderful holiday then. It is even better today. it's a really beautiful setting with very well-designed pool villas and public buildings, boardwalks that wind their way between large pools stocked with fish and canopied by huge kampu trees. It's fascinating watching the varieties of birds and squirrels that live in them. The hotel is even better today than it was in the past in part because the two restaurants are first-rate. The buffet breakfasts are excellent, not only because of the wide range (most international hotels provide that) but because the quality of the individual preparation is so high. And beyond that, Baan Dum ("the black house') the separate Thai restaurant, which is open to the public, has the best Thai seafood in Hua Hin, with fresh ingredients prepared in unique ways. Try any of the crab dishes, or - another of my favourites - the prawns in tamarind sauce. I should mention what a complex operation all of this requires. After all, every pool villa is a separate building to maintain. But it's a very smooth operation with a very warm and friendly atmosphere, from the top all the way down to the individual cleaners and kitchen workers.

Resort rundown

Loved the colonial style - lots of wood. Great large room and view of the lagoon from room 205. Friendly staff. Nice pool.

The first room we got -211- overlooked the pool and not then lagoon so we were moved the next day after we complained. A lot of the beach/pool towels were tatty and worn and needs replacing. The same for some of the lounge mattresses. The gym needs a deep clean.

The junior suite which I had booked was very good, they upgraded us to a pool villa due to a very late check in procedure for the last 2 nights! Nice gesture but to be honest the initial villa was better!!

Late check in without any reasonable explanation! GM and FOM very hospitable people!! Enjoyed their company very good!!
