The service at the Miyajima Grand Hotel couldn't have been better. Shuttle bus to collect us from the ferry, bags carried to our room (which was lovely), staff on hand at all points, exceptional dinner, onsen in the building - we had such a great time! Very little to find fault with but the menu is very fish/seafood heavy so not great if you're not a fan of that!

This ryokan was so cozy and the staff was incredible. I would have given them more stars if I could have. We had a Japanese style room with private garden and a soaking tub. In the first floor of the ryokan you can find the public onsen. When you first arrive you are greeted by all the staff and check in on the second floor. Dinner and breakfast were included in the price for the room we stayed in. We were shown to our room and had tea and fruits/sweets waiting for us in the room. The hostess/geisha prepared green tea for us and asked about our dinner menu choices. Dinner was delicious with some of the freshest sashimi I have ever had. Very enjoyable stay. The hotel offers a free shuttle for its guests to and from Miyajima ferry. Also if you like to hike the trail (2.4 km and very steep with plenty of stairs) that takes you to the top of Mount Misen is just around the corner from this Ryokan.

"10/10 - Stay here!!!"

10.0

Beautiful location, amazing room and the staff were just incredible. We contacted them ahead of time about the possibility of vegan alternatives for meals and honestly we were blown away by the level of effort they put in. The best food we had in our entire holiday by far!! They were so attentive, obliging and friendly too. Best check in experience we had all holiday, most helpful recommendations about the local area and just an all round fantastic experience. We looked at so many options including Iwaso who never even bothered to reply to our email (!) and other luxury options. I am so so glad we went with this place and delighted we were able to experience it. Without doubt we would stay here again in a heartbeat.

"A gem on a beautiful island"

10.0

I stayed for two nights which gives you the opportunity to see the sights both morning and evening without many other tourists. The hotel really surprised my with it's warm welcome, personal host (english speaking) to help me settle in, serve the traditional dinner and likewise breakfast. Rooms are spacious and at the same time really traditional and simply furnished. The view from my room (307) over the bay was scenic - day and night! God for the traditional dinner and experience top-quality, traditional Japanese food. But be aware that fish and seefood including the delicious Oysters from the bay are high on the agenda. This was really great - and the dinner is changed every night. The traditional Japanese breakfast was good too, but if you don't fancy rice, fish, oyester and miso for breakfast there is a western style option which I don't know the quality of! All sights are literally around the corner and the rope way to Mt Misen 20 min walk away (or the shuttle 5 min away). A must visit too which an overnight stay would allow for! Finally, remember to visit the onsen at the hotel. Clothing is optional (I didn't see anyone in swimming trunks) and the bath is not a mixed-gender bath. Tattoos are not allowed. This was really above my expectation and I'm looking forward to an opportunity to revisits

"Lovely stay in a lovely setting"

8.0

I generally prefer smaller ryokan off the beaten path, but that's hard to do in Miyajima. This was a lovely alternative. The hotel is conveniently located to the temple and walking town, although you wouldn't think so from the van ride once you get off the ferry. The roads go around the core area of town, so it seems like it is much further away. But do not despair! Once you are at the hotel, you can exit on the lower level and be steps from most of the major areas of Miyajima. The meals were typically over-the-top as one expects in a ryokan. I regret we didnt get to eat in our room, but the separate dining area for dinner was still private. Breakfast was, like most ryokan, in a common room which was fine, too. The onsen was fine, with a well appointed changing and bathing area. The outdoor rotemburo is tiny (barely 4 people can sit in it at once. But hours of access were good. We had 6 women in our party and were given a mixed room -- big tatami area and two full size beds. It was huge - plenty of room for even more people. The only downside is only one toilet for that many people means a queue, but it was tolerable.
