"Charming New Orleans B&B!!"

10.0

We booked our stay in June for our 10th wedding anniversary in early October. As the trip approached, so did Hurricane Nate. Russell, the owner, was very informative ahead of the storm and offered no cancellation fee should we have decided to cancel. Knowing the storm could miss, we decided to take a chance and travel anyway. Upon our arrival, we discovered that everyone else had decided to cancel, so we had the entire home to ourselves! Russell was well prepared for the storm, and we felt quite comfortable to ride it out. He even offered additional nights at no charge should we have to stay extra nights if there were travel delays. Since we couldnโ€™t go out for dinner due to the curfew, his wife made us some fantastic homemade fried chicken! We had a wonderful experience despite missing out on our anniversary dinner because the curfew....but itโ€™s yet another reason to return to New Orleans!! A wonderful place for couples looking to get away from the chaos of Bourbon Street and still enjoy an authentic New Orleans experience. We enjoyed strolling through city park and sitting out on the front porch in the evenings. There is lots to see, do AND eat nearby (even a 24-hour joint located a short walk away in the park), and youโ€™re only a quick street car ride from downtown, the Quarter and the Garden District.

"New Orleans re-visit after Katrina"

8.0

The place has a good host. He did what he could to make my stay pleasant. He can cook a good roll or biscuit. The only minor draw back to the place was that breakfast did not start until nine a.m. However, he did provide cereals and other amenities in the dining room the night before and some beverages in the refrigerator that I could access well before 9:00. I was usually the only guest there. Accessibility to public transit was quite good with both motor-bus and street railway service to important parts of New Orleans. The bed and breakfast site itself was next to the botanical gardens of City Park with a duplicate Cafe' du Monde where one could get coffee and bignets (sp.?) on a 24 hour basis. I also took advantage of some guided tours to sites just outside the city that were not accessible by public transit.

"We will be back to stay at this gem!"

10.0

Just in New Orleans for a couple of days and Oakview more than met my expectations. A wonderfully restored Victorian house across the street from City Park, it was spacious, extremely comfortable and convenient to the trolley and neighborhood cafes and shops. Russ is an excellent host, the breakfasts were delicious and visiting with the other guests an added bonus. Also I was surprised to find a whirlpool tub in the en suite bathroom.
