Paradee

During my planning, i was seeking a relaxed, peaceful resort hotel, with the intention of simply forgetting daily life. I plumped for Koh Samet, an island situated in the Gulf of Thailand, 2 hours drive south east of Bangkok. Koh Samet is far from one of the traditional Thai islands or beach resorts, that are familiar to most visitors. I chose Paradee Resort, and I am so glad. The resort is simply stunning, fine golden sands, turquoise warm waters, and simply tranquil set in amongst a beautiful National Park, where the protection of the environment sets the tone for your stay. A range of large villas, set within the gardens or direct access to onto a beach which would rival any Maldivian Island. Every member of staff plays a massive role ensuring your stay is a stay that will live long on the memory. Attentive, engaging, nothing is too much trouble, Complimentary afternoon tea, plus ice cream, is a fantastic and most welcome addition. The fine sands of the beach, offer a dream like experience for lunch or evening meals, with both Thai and Western food offered. The Sunset Bar affords the most amazing sunsets every evening, where most guests head for. I can also recommend the private speed boat transfer. For anyone wishing for a prefect relaxing experience in Thailand, perhaps after a busy Asia itinerary, this has to be your perfect retreat. I will definitely be back.

You know you're going to love a resort when at check-in you're asked what scented soaps and room diffuser oil you'd like in your villa.... Everything is so 'luxe' - collected on the jetty and transferred to the resort by private speedboat - everything you could want in the villa - fresh fruit, well stocked mini-bar, robes etc etc Service is spot on - attentive and friendly Food was good - although some daily specials to vary the menu would have been welcome Beach and sea so beautiful and clean A big thank you for making my birthday special with a 'birthday cake' made of towels and tropical flowers on the bed and a real cake after dinner

Recently returned for a weeks stay at Paradee to celebrate our birthdays and we weren't disappointed. We have lost count now of how many times we have stayed here however we did note that it was our 10th year of visiting. From the moment we arrived at Jadet Pier on the mainland, we were greeted as old friend. Great to see and recognise friendly faces from the get go. A very efficient check in as always, soap and room scent chosen and off for our private speedboat transfer to the island. I know i have mentioned it before but the removal of the bottle of wine upon arrival is a shame. Maybe consider reinstating for guests who pay for the private transfer as a little gift... hint, hint. 20 minutes later and we glided towards Paradee on the Sunset side of the island to be met by the welcoming party of managers and colleagues. We were welcomed once again to our favourite resort in Thailand as old friends. Nice to see the little renovation of the Sunset Bar and surrounding area. A golf buggy awaited us with James the driver to whisk us to our chosen villa. Now I now people say go for the beach front villas as they are amazing, which they are. However we have tried them in the past and found them not very private. As the name described, they are beach front so open out straight onto the beach. Over the years we have found that the second row back are exactly the same facilities much more private and yes a total of 20 metres to the beach, our choice every time. James asked if we needed the facilities explaining, however looking around there was no need at all, everything was exactly as we expected, including Jack Jones playing on the mini hifi. He has been singing that song on arrival now for 10 years at least. They team had kindly left a small birthday cake for our arrival which was very greatly received, not to the amazing towel art birthday cake and fresh flowers. Thank you. Within 20 mins of arrival we were bobbing around in the aqua marine crystal clear waters, happy as ever. Afternoon tea whether this is in your villa, on the beach or on your terrace, is always a nice touch just before cooling off for the day and getting ready for sunset cocktails at 5.30 to 6.00pm. On the first night a complimentary cocktail is served from a small choice on the menu at the sunset bar. Again as an old time visitor, a little disappointed that there are only 5 to chose from. Back in the day it was simply a cocktail of choice. Dinner whether served on the beach as is the case at the weekend, or in the restaurant will be a very nice occasion. Excellent service from Nicky and his team in F&B who all do a great job. Special shout out to Nook and Aoy who always have a smile for you. A table was always reserved for us without asking and the service was fist class. Food as always, tasty fresh and plentiful. Fire-show on the beach on Saturday is fun, don't forget to have a few baht in your pocket to tip the guys at the end Finally I can't finish off with 2 special mentions, Marlon who created the cocktails every evening along with many other tasks is a great friendly guy, say hello when you meet him. He always finds us out when we arrive ( sorry we missed you when we left) and last but no means least, the legend that is Par ! 16 years this guys has been working here. We first knew Par as one of the beach team, however now F&B expert. A special thankyou to Par for arranging a phonecall with the old GM Mr Pornthep Hantrakarnpong at his home in Bangkok. What a lovely thing for him to arrange for us. On our last morning, it was nice that the new GM popped over at breakfast to thank us once again as she couldn't be around for our departure. Even though the hotel was fully booked she managed to arrange for us to keep our room on until we left, which was really appreciated. I know our next visit will be just as good as this one. Thanks to all the team.

Our fourth visit to the Paradee. We wish we could have stayed longer after the wonderful Christmas they gave us . Another beautiful , relaxing and enjoyable time. All the staff were superb as always - with a special shout out to Par, Jib and Aoy for making it yet another great time at the Paradee. The Beach front villas are superb, the food is excellent and above all, the staff are the best. Can't wait until we return again.

Amazing hotel. The villa was extremely well equipped and exceptionally clean. The service was exemplary, from the reception,in the restaurant, on the beach ( complementary ice cream and afternoon tea on our sun beds by the sea!) Wonderful to be received by welcoming party at the jetty ( and waved goodbye from the jetty on departure!) We felt we were on “Retreat “and would thoroughly recommend Paradee to those wanting to to “get away from it all “ on a beautiful beach. Thank you James,and all your staff, for a fabulous place to celebrate 50 years of marriage.

A truly fabulous hotel. Phenomenal staff, especially James, Jib and Tungjai. The staff remembered our room number, drink preferences and could not do enough for us. Their free afternoon teas were a triumph along with the daily free ice cream. It's exciting to have to be transported via speed boat to this exceptional hotel, with its own pier on the mainland. The location of this hotel cannot be bettered as it's on a narrow peninsula, you can watch the sunrise on one side and walk a short distance across to watch the sunset - bars for viewing are available on both. Don't go there for anything other than to relax!

before starting this review i just need to make sure i've taken note of as many different superlatives as possible - you know... lest the review get a bit boring. ok... amazing. that seems to be the most obvious one. indulgent. the price tag to be there is not cheap, but everything about your stay makes every baht worth it. serene. it's just so quiet and peaceful. and after a few days you can see it written all over people's faces - smiling and relaxed. we stayed for six nights in a beachfront villa and loved every moment of our stay. all the villas are the same size and presumably the same in terms of amenities and services. the garden villas are about a minute or two lazy stroll to the beach, so if the beachfront ones are outside what you can afford, you're by no means missing out. we'd read some reviews suggesting the beach view villas were great because you're saving money and the beach is just there, and there's a bit more privacy than being on the beach. and that'd be right too. one of the things i loved about the beachfront villas was the view out the window from the shower - looking across our pool to the sand and trees on beach. it was paradise. so really, whichever you room you choose you'll be happy. as with just about anywhere in thailand, the people are divine. they smile from the heart and help to make your stay that much more personable. we noticed they had quite a number of "trainee" staff working in the restaurant and sunset bar. it's worth pointing this out because for many types of traveller, they won't offer any concession to this - they'll demand top level service because of the price they're paying. they'll expect flawless levels of english comprehension (despite the fact they themselves cannot speak a word of thai). the truth is, there are properties in thailand and around the world waaaaaay more expensive than Paradee. perhaps in those properties you can be more demanding. if you're staying at Paradee you've surely chosen to relax, unwind and hopefully even unplug. there's no need for airs and graces here - that'd be incongruous with the surrounds. it's certainly worth knowing you're quite isolated at Paradee. don't choose to stay here if you're expecting to wander down the beach to eat at other restaurants or bars. there used to be a cafe open on the beach ten minutes walk away but even that has closed whilst a new resort is being built. the good news is the restaurant at Paradee is... superb. the menu has a wide variety of both thai and western food. we ate from both menus and the food is delicious. the green papaya salad was other-worldly as was the chicken massaman curry, to name but two. Paradee is the place to come to when you want to relax and chill. they specifically ask you to be mindful of noise after 10pm, so if you're after a party, look elsewhere.
