Fariyas Hotel

This way our second stay at the Fariyas Hotel in Mumbai. First of all you cannot beat the location. It is so central to all the important tourist sights and just a stroll to the harbour. We enjoyed staying in the old historical area of Colaba. The room was very clean, well appointed and and had a nice outlook. The staff on the front desk were able to help up with all our queries, orgainising transport, the locations of places we wanted to visit etc. The cleaning staff did an excellent job too. The food in the Restaurant was delicious and varied. We would highly recommend the Fariyas Hotel in Mumbai.

We stayed two nights at the start of a trip to southern India. It was fine, not elegant. A few blocks from the Gateway to India that was walkable. There seemed to be quite a few others staying in the hotel that we saw on our travels going forward. The food was fine. Rooms were clean. No complaints.

I wanted to love this hotel but ultimately could not as the service hiccups piled up. Upon checkin as a same-sex couple we were informed our only option was single beds. Anything else would be in a smoking room. Really? Ultimately it didn’t matter as the curtains and upholstery in our room smelled of tobacco anyway. The bedsheets were so thin as to be translucent. The keypad of the telephone was filthy (see photos). The shower stall featured a very slippery stone floor with no rubber mat. It was of the flood-the-adjacent-floor type, soaking the nearby terrycloth bath mat. We were rewarded for that by having no mat for drying feet the second night. Oh, and the air-conditioning blows down on the beds. The breakfast and supper buffet was tasty and varied, but our first night a cricket match on a flat screen in the dining room distracted staff unduly. Fancy a bucket of ice in your room? $1.50 will be added to your bill — hope it’s worth the trouble for their accounting office. Requesting one the second night no one ever answered at guest services so I phoned the front desk only to be told I should call guest services. !!!!! When informed that no one answered they agreed to pass on the message, and a 2/3rds empty bucket eventually arrived. We’re all done with this establishment in spite of kindly staff members lower down the echelon. We paid $140 a night when for $100 more we could have been in relative luxury at the Taj Mahal Palace tower annex. Caveat emptor.

Staff was okay, not the most welcoming. Not rude, but not even smiling or happy at work.

This hotel is ideal for one or two nights stay. Food was excellent and breakfast outstanding. Rooms small and staff very friendly. Pool lacked shade and sunbeds and over shadowed by other buildings limiting access. Reception and hospitality staff very helpful and tried to make our sat comfortable. The beds were the hardest in the whole of our trip. Lack of access to good English tv programming and films

The hotel is not clean at all, waiting time from any thing like towel, or extra blankets takes forever. The ac is too loud. We got a room with a very bad smell from the bathroom. The breakfast is not very diverse. I would not give this hotel 4 star at all. Only good thing it’s the location, very close to gateway of India.

Definitely not a 4 stars hotel. First the fooms are not that clean, the a/c is very loud and the room are small. Again an unfortunate unprofessional staff. We booked a 3 people bedroom and got a king size bed. When our room was changed (after a waiting time) we got a small and not clean room (7 floors away from the other room we booked).

A pleasant hotel in Mumbai. Breakfast & evening meals had a good selection especially for vegetarians. Room was roomy although originally we were given one with a connecting door, which was changed without too much difficulty. The rooms weren't very sound proof & there was noise both from above & outside the door. We enjoyed our short stay. The staff were very accomodating.

Stayed here a couple of nights as part of a holiday in India. Check in was easy, and reception staff were pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was an Indian buffet style breakfast with a selection of curries, breads, along with eggs, cereals, meats and cheeses and fruit and was very nice. The hotel is well located with plenty shops and Indian style restaurants in the vicinity , all busy with locals and the food served looked very good. What really let the hotel down was the service in the restaurant. As we were leaving the hotel at 2.30am the following morning we ( husband and I) decided to eat in the hotel restaurant then have an early night. The restaurant only opened at 7pm so we booked a table for 7.15pm. There was a set price Indian buffet ( which looked very nice) but we decided on the a la carte selection. We ordered garlic naan to start and said to the waiter ' we will have that as a starter'. I then ordered the herb crusted chicken but the waiter wasn't sure if they had that dish(it was chicken breast with a few herbs - why would a hotel restaurant not have that???). He checked with the kitchen and came back to confirm they did have it. My husband ordered the kingfish steaks. Although the restaurant was busy, many guests were having the Indian buffet and so required minimum intervention from the waiting staff. We waited ....and waited and eventually my food arrived. At that point my husband asked what had happened to the naan we ordered. The waiter apologised and there was some running between kitchen and restaurant....then we waited and eventually the garlic naan appeared. I had started to eat my meal as it was going cold, and my husband asked where his meal was. Again they apologised and said it was on its way. Again we waited and waited and by this point I had finished my ( almost cold) meal. Furthermore a foursome on the next table who had arrived slightly after us had been served and eaten 2 courses and were leaving . My husband had STILL had NOT got his food. He again called the waiter over and again we received an apology and were assured the food was on its way. My husbands meal finally arrived and I complained saying we had actually planned to eat together and had waited far too long to be served. The waiter was very defensive saying ' you have to understand, the fish takes time to prepare' . What??? It was two small fish steaks!!! How could that take longer than chicken or longer than TWO courses for 4 people next to us. Anyway my husband was eating his meal and the chef appeared alongside us with a waiter and a plate on which was a kingfish steak in a sauce. He said ' by way of apology for the time you have waited I have cooked this for you'. We both said we didn't really want anything else to eat but they insisted we try it - which we did. It was OK but how that could be in anyway an apology for our waiting over an hour for food was beyond us. Plus it was getting late and we really just wanted to get to bed for our early morning departure. So - to summarise, nice hotel, well located, and nice helpful reception staff but give the restaurant a miss. The food is very average and the service is appalling.

The staff were friendly and professionally. Clean and comfortable. Safe place. The catering staff were very polite and friendly always checking on you and making you feel comfortable. A big thank you to Sarvesh,Hari kesh and Hitesh and not forgetting the rest of the staff. Thank you for making our trip memorable.
