Oude Werf Hotel

Super Lage im Herzen von Stellenbosch.

Preis Leistung stimmt nicht. Zimmer 213 ist sehr dunkel und Fenster konnten nicht geöffnet werden. Stil vom Hotel eher historisch als modern. Geärgert haben wir uns (aus Prinzip) darüber, dass das Wasser beim Frühstück von unserem 10 jährigen Sohn, der notabene keine Kaffee trinkt, verrechnet worden ist. Auch die Toiletten und Duschen, sind sehr indiskret zum Schlafraum abgetrennt.

It’s a bit pricey but a lovely hotel. Fabulous rooms, great location but above all the staff are wonderful. Especially our experience with the front desk manager,,, I think his name was Ezel. I should know cos he knew my name every time we chatted. Top class professional. Highly recommended as a small to medium size hotel.

There can't be a better location in Stellenbosch than this, a stroll from shops, restaurants, and ATMs for example. Traffic is the only issue, but offset by the hotel staff's efficiency in parking your car in the hotel's (free) underground car park. The Oude Werf is a historic building - the restaurant courtyard is shaded by the oldest vine in Stellenbosch IIRC - and quite large. Most of the property is modern build now, but there are pockets of classic Cape Dutch interior decor, especially in the large reception hall and the elegant bar. Good value when you consider the size of most of the rooms, and the free parking (you should of course tip the staff though, they work very hard to make this aspect easy for guests). The restaurant is a very pleasant spot, with ample space both inside, and in that vine-shaed courtyard. Facilities such as bathrooms are modern; decor varies between traditional and quite funkily modern, but all the rooms have attractive aspects.

For over $400 per night I do expect a clean hotel. Sorry to say, this was not. From chair cushions, shower cubical, sewerage smell from the sink, carpet in room not vacuumed, balcony filthy, used water glasses not changed from the first day. The list can go on. Breakfast was worse than a university cafeteria, the staff only engaged when we initiated conversation. This was completely opposite from our experience everywhere else in SA, which was perfect in every way. We did write to the General Manager with these comments, not even the courtesy to follow up which is was I'm sharing this on a public forum. As already stated great location but I'm sorry to say that interior designers need to make sure experienced operators takeover when they leave and not leave it to instagram to show pretty pictures only.
