Ocean Gardens

A truly four-star hotel. Large, well appointed rooms and bathrooms, quality furniture, impeccable cleanliness, kind, polite, helpful staff. The restaurant is excellent (but quite expensive, it's true), also with a professional and very kind staff. I highlight mainly Miss Ludovica, a very special person and a very pretty young lady. The only minus - the hotel is a bit isolated, there is nothing of great interest nearby. But a free shuttle service to Funchal is provided, three times a day, with the exception of weekends and holidays. I recommend this hotel.

This place is so nice and romantic. The hotel has great views and a lot of amenities. We stayed in room 601, new room, everything was nice and fresh and had one of the best view. The breakfast and dinner was delicious. The staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. Marcelo and Barbara lovely staff. Marcelo has helped us with tips and advices about Madeira. He has wrote a note for us with most of the attraction points. Lovely place to stay!

There are great views over the city and the bay.

Rooms with a fantastic view of the Atlantic Ocean & Funchal Harbour. If you get a room facing the harbour, there's always something to catch a glance of. The cable cars going up & down the mountainous terrain that is the backdrop to the city, to the many cruise boats that vist Madiera every week. Occasionally, youll see a replica of Christopher Columbus's Clipper floating about.  The downside is the continual drone of the traffic below passing endlessly on a daily basis except Sunday.  The rooms are good, clean, comfy beds & the cleaning staff are very friendly & do a good job. The breakfast is okay. Healthier options as well as usual bacon cherrio sausages, eggs fried or scrambled.  There's a pool at the top of the hotel of which the surrounding balconies have even better views of what I previously mentioned.  There's a bar up there which is open during the day with reasonably priced drinks.  The staff are very friendly & will help where possible. They have a shuttle into Funchal every day of which I used once. The guy turned up on time at the pickup spot on time.  It is quite a trek to town walking. This will take an hour. Footpaths on the roads aren't everywhere, so are a bit at the mercy of the traffic.  There's no coffee & tea making facilities in your room of which I found to be a let down.  These little niggles will petre out into into insignificance as you get around the beautiful island of Madiera. The people are the most friendly I've met anywhere in the world. Will be back.

One of the best hotels I've stayed in without a doubt. The hotel staff were friendly and welcoming and really went the extra mile to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. A special mention for Manuel! The view from our room and really any other part of the hotel was incredible. Breakfast was included in our stay and included cooked and continental with a wide selection. We also ate at the on-site restaurant for lunch and dinner sometimes during our stay - again great food, reasonably priced. There is a bus stop immediately outside the hotel or you can get a taxi or use Bolt (like Uber) to get into the city centre and around Funchal for a reasonable price (€6-10). The journey is about 20-30 mins by bus or 7-10mins by car. The hotel also has a shuttle bus at fixed times into Funchal. It was our first time visiting Madeira and this hotel definitely contributed to a luxurious stay. I would absolutely stay here again next time I visit Madeira.
