BEST WESTERN Santakos Hotel

The location is the hotel's strongest feature. It is within walking distance of Kaunas Old Town, Kaunas Castle, restaurants, shops and other attractions. I also found people around Kaunas to be friendly and helpful, and it was easy to explore the city on foot from the hotel.

Extremely disappointing stay with significant noise disruption and poor room experience. This stay was genuinely upsetting and exhausting. I booked a King Room expecting the standard I had experienced at other Best Western hotels, but unfortunately, this stay fell far short of expectations. The first room allocated felt uncomfortable immediately. It had another locked room/door inside, making the space feel strange, dark, and unsettling. I requested an alternative room and was moved, but the replacement room was directly beside reception, where I could hear people coming and going. I explained I wanted a quiet room, but was told the hotel was fully booked and that I should have requested one beforehand. The “King” room itself was also misleading, as it appeared to be two single beds pushed together rather than a true king bed. Noise became the biggest issue throughout the stay. Renovation/construction work was taking place directly outside my room and continued into the evening (on some nights until close to 11 pm). There was visible scaffolding and ongoing works while guests were staying. Even after the construction noise ended, sleep was repeatedly interrupted. I could hear hotel activity late at night and again early in the morning, including staff counting coins/cash around opening and closing periods. I requested another room because I was struggling to rest and was shown a smaller room upstairs, but it was directly opposite the lift, meaning lift traffic noise remained an issue. Food was another disappointment. The soup served on my first night looked very different from what I expected. The bread shown in promotional images appeared toasted but arrived plain, and the soup itself was extremely watery and lacked the richness expected. Breakfast was equally disappointing. I tried the oats, but the texture resembled undercooked rice more than properly prepared oats. One staff interaction also left me uncomfortable

Das Hotel befindet sich in einem alten Backsteingebäude und ist innen wunderbar eingerichtet. Unser Zimmer war großzügig mit einen wunderbaren großen Bad und einer separaten Toilette. Das Mobiliar sehr stilvoll, hat mich an Art deco erinnert. Der Fahrstuhl ist zwar schon etwas älter und man darf erst drücken, wenn alle Personen drin sind, ansonsten gehen die Türen mit etwas Druck zu und das könnte etwas weh tun, aber er passt perfekt in das Ambiente. Das Frühstück war reichhaltig und schmackhaft. Wir haben im Restaurant am Abend noch etwas gegessen, auch die Qualität des Essens war sehr gut.

Es gibt nicht genug Parkplätze und am ersten Abend war das Personal etwas sehr kurz angebunden. Ich habe zwar gelesen, dass die Balte eher zurückhaltend sind, aber da habe ich mich im ersten Moment etwas unwohl gefühlt. Das hat sich am folgenden Tag aber geändert.
