"Stunning seaview"

8.0

Enjoying the skyline of Salvador with the tranquility of this neighbourhood is possible. All you need is around so you can easily relax. Sea, clean beach, swimmingpool and also good restaurants and supermarket. Just perfect if you want to visit the old center (1hour car drive) but not want to stay there (eg with small children). Rooms upstairs with balcony are comfortable, clean and with great seaview and Salvador skyline.

"An amazing place where we were made to feel at home"

10.0

I stayed with three friends in this pousada on our holiday to brazil. I was welcomed by a lovely man named Igor, who helped us in every way to make our stay at the Pousada and Salvador a great one. We had a great room which was very spacious and accomodated us well, we were up graded to the sea view room which also had a large balcony. The breakfast were great, with fresh juices each morning and freshly baked cakes and pastries. Igor made us feel like part of the family and drove us to the centre and made our last night memorable by the BBQ he cooked on the beach.

"Outstanding service, we loved the personal attention we recieved"

10.0

We booked 5days in Salvador on our whirlwind trip of brazil for an ideal relaxing beach break. The Pousada was delightful, bohemian and bahian in style. We got a beachfront room with balcony. The room was spacious clean and perfect for a beach chill holiday ( reminded me of byron bay) lots of wood and african/bahian style decoration.A Safe, free wifi, beach towels, dining table, sink, shower ( solar powered - gets my vote!) plenty of wardrobe space and nothing was too much trouble for Igor and Rodregees. Like other people have said you could be completely left alone if you wished but we actually drilled Igor for as much information as possible about the area as we were a little nervous, but he gave us good advice. One day when it was raining Igor actually drove us into Salvador as we were worried about the bus ( we didnt need to be - we got the bus home no worries!) Another day we met Igor on the beach and we joined in a typical bahian bbq and watched the sunset!. The pousada is right on the beach so perfect distance to get to and from and 200m from the nearest shops and bank. Like anywhere in Brazil, Salvador is the 4th largest city and is very poor - that is obvious as you drive in and see all the tall walls and electric fences. That shouldnt put you off though, if you do what we did, just be safe sensible and dont put yourself at risk. We had a very enjoyable experience thanks to igor, and rodreges they were like an old married couple! breakfast was simple but perfectly brazilian, lots of meat, lovely bread, cakes, fresh fruit, and always freshly squeezed juices thanks to lucianna. On the day we left they even got up and did us a really early breakfast and booked our taxis. Thumbs up and thanks again from claire becky and whan ( jonathan) x

"Excellent visit"

10.0

This is the third time my partner and I have stayed in this Pousada....it is a lovely little place directly on the beach with clean spacious rooms, friendly and helpful staff, pool with lovely terrace with views of the beach where you can sit and enjoy a cold beer or breakfast of freshly baked cakes, fruits, juices, cheeses etc.... Itapua is a little town with white sandy beaches running along the coast and the perfect place to come and stay if you want to relax and escape the noise and bustle of Salvador city. We have stayed in many Pousadas in Bahia, Rio, Pernambuco and can highly recommend a stay here.....The hospitlity of the people here makes it feel like coming home and we hope to come back again very soon.....

"Are you kidding me?!"

2.0

I am Brazilian and I have been to Salvador before many times. I love the city and its people; in my opinion, it shares with Recife the title of most creative and dynamic cultural capital of Brazil. I chose this pousada after reading the comments at TripAdvisor. Unfortunately, and for the first time, I could not be more disappointed. - The pousada: Well, for the price they charge, I have known better pousadas in Bahia and elsewhere in Brazil. It is true that it is located right in front of the beach and 500 meters from the center of Itapoa. It has a nice pool and clean but very simple rooms. That’s all for the positives; I found the owners blasés, almost depressed, giving an image of decadence. We felt like they were detached from their role as hosts. They were not impolite, but rather a far cry from the typical warm and friendly Brazilians we have always met. We stayed only one night at a small room in the basement (we were supposed to move up later but we left before). The TV was useless (brokenn antenae), the sheets had holes and there was no hot water. The breakfast was very minimalist, with only coffee, milk, a couple of juices, crackers, slices of bread, ham and cheese and a (not really tasty) cake. In summary, one gets too little for too much. - The beach: Frankly, Bahia and Brazil have beaches that are much, much better than this one. I last visited Itapoa 20 years ago and was impressed by how beautiful and calm it was. Nowadays, it looks more like a mix of an open air garbage dump and a nightclub, especially on weekends. The cacophony of dozens of sound systems playing different songs is unbearable, and the volume of trash left by the public is disgusting. I don’t see the point of being at a beach-front room, unless one wants to listen to a thousand different Axé bands at the same time while looking at a garbage dump. Our neighbors played music very loud the whole day since this is the way people like to have fun over there. In the last 5 or 10 years, Brazilians have gotten into oversized sound systems and loud music in the beach. The time of “passar uma tarde em Itapoa, ouvindo o mar de Itapoa” is long gone…Add to this the lack of a decent garbage collection service and you have the worst possible nightmare for someone looking for a peaceful and pleasant stay. It breaks my heart but I think Itapoa is a shame to Bahia and to Brazil. I can only recommend this place during the carnival, when the only thing we need is a shower, a decent bed and a warm coffee in the morning. Other than that, don’t waste your money there; go visit the town but move North or South of Salvador for the beaches.

"Tranquility on the beach"

8.0

We spent a week at the Pousada in early July. The staff is excellent, friendly and ready for any request. The view from the 2nd floor bedroom catches both the local Itapuan beach and a view of Salvador. The neighborhood is residential, so the only excitement is on weekends when the beach fills with sun worshipers. The nearby beach food stands are clean and offer good food for reasonable prices. We recommend it.
