"Fun trip to Piter"

8.0

It was really hard to find the hotel. The room which we got (I think it's called economy) was teeny tiny, but had everything we needed. Great location with easy access to restaurants and see sites. Rooms are new and clean. Overall pleasant experience.

"Very basic, Convenient location"

6.0

Pros: - Staff: The staff in Reception spoke good English and were always helpful. - Location: The apartments are right on the main street, Nevskiy prospekt, and convenient to a popular canal boat tour; walking distance to many smaller museums; and about 25 minutes to the Hermitage. - Apartment: You have a small stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishes, and cutlery so you don't have to eat out every meal. Cons: - Location: Nevskiy prospekt can be crowded and gets annoying quickly. - Internet: The wireless Internet access was free but worked only about half of the time; sometimes I had to position myself right by the door to my room. They really need to improve the placement of routers, which is easy to do! - Smoke: While the apartments themselves are non-smoking, people are allowed to smoke on the landing between the 4th and 5th floors. And they do. And the stench comes up to the apartments on the 5th floor. Notes: This place can be a little hard to find. I hope the following helps. First, save yourself a bundle and take the bus and Metro from the airport. You can board the bus at the airport; an agent will eventually come around and charges you 21 rubles for a ticket; change can be provided. Get off at the Moscovaya stop [where almost everyone else will probably get off] and buy a token for the Metro for 25 rubles. Signs are in Russian and English. It is a pretty easy system to follow. The apartments are located on the 5th floor of a building on the northeast corner of Nevskiy prospekt and Liteynyy prospekt. The entrance is on Liteynyy prospekt, about 50 paces down on the right. There is sometimes a paper sign on the door. If not, it is the first door that is not leading to a store. The foyer is dimly-lit and looks kind of scary. Watch out for the step down that comes early. The stairs have cracked tiles. There is no elevator, so you have to haul your bags up to the fifth floor. Your heart will sink when you reach the 4th floor landing and see a locked gate. Don't worry, there is someone in Reception 24 hours-a-day. Press the button and, when buzzed in, pull the door on the left toward you. Summary: While a little hard to find, these very basic, small apartments are cheaper than the typical overpriced St. Petersburg hotel rooms, and the location is fairly convenient. They need to improve the Internet access.

"Great location, cheap price, recommended."

8.0

The hotel is in a fantastic location, but a little hard to find. The hotel is called 'Nevsky 78' implying on nevsky prospect, but in reality the door is actually on the road going off of it, which confused our taxi driver a little! Not a problem if you print the directions from their website before going, and once you have seen the communal doorway (the door is for the whole building) and climbed the 5 slightly scary looking flights of stairs then you'll have no problem finding your way again. On our way up to the hotel on the 5th floor we were a bit put off as the stairs and rest of the building looked a little shabby, however on the 5th floor you find a perfectly pleasant hall way with a reception counter, nicely decorated and perfectly clean. The staff are lovely and speak great english which makes everything easier. Our room was clean and fairly basic but was just what we needed as the location is so fantastic. The hotel also offers airport transfers (Advised, we found taxi drivers in Russia to drive scarily to say the least!) and excursions at an added price, and has free internet and around 30 TV channels although the website states only 8. The hotel are also very prompt at replying to emails and offer a free tourist voucher (which you need as part of your visa) whereas some hotel charge up to £50! Overall, a good, clean, friendly hotel in a fabulous location. Not very luxurious, but you can't argue with the cheap prices!! I would recommend it to anyone. A+

"great location, comfortable rooms"

8.0

this was a great place based on the price and location. the only drawbacks were the 500 ruble fee for registration and the lack of elevator but, all in all, it's made up for by the low price. the staff was nice and helpful if asked for anything.

"Hesitate to return"

4.0

We had a party of 7 (friends/family) stay at Nevsky 78 Aparthotel. The purpose of our trip was to attend a family wedding and to see Saint Petersburg. I read some unfavourable reviews prior to booking the room and thought I would take my chances as it was a bit cheaper than other hotels and couldn't be all that bad.We had a Russian family pick us up at the airport and located the side entryway of the hotel and helped us check in. I booked 5 reservations online and 1 of them was not listed in their system even though [...]. The hotel was booked solid, so we found another hotel for that 1 person. Not sure where the gliche occurred. The admin office is located 1/4 mile away and temporarily fixed us up with a dual room, but it was still an inconvience as we had to move rooms and find another hotel for that 1 person's last night. The hotel entryway is shared with a Hostel and other apartments. Entryway was dark, smelled of urine, smelled of smoke, had homeless people sleeping on the stairway landings and food/garbage everywhere. There is a locked irongate on the 4th floor separating the hotel with cameras. I would be concerned for personal safety if by myself. But we had no trouble during our stay. We did get a phone call at 3am and said it was the police at the front door. We ignored it and did not further investigate it for fear of being ambushed at the doorway in the middle of the night. Having no lifts did not bother us as we were all physically capable of lifting our luggages. The rooms were basic and small, but clean enough. Beds are okay. The hotel is on a busy street, so it was noisy all night. My sister ended up rebooking at another hotel that cost $20USD more, but had breakfast, elevator, felt safer and no dark entries. If by myself, I would have stayed elsewhere also. The hotel is walking distance to restaurants, museums, shopping and other tourist attractions. The front desk people were nice and tries to help out. Kitchens were basic, but nice to have. They do not clean daily and have to pay extra for cleaning service. We stayed 8 nights and could have used cleaning inbetween. We definitely got some local flavour staying there.

"Disgusting stairwell"

6.0

Nevsky Prospect is a very expensive address for somewhere where all the buildings are decrepit and beyond redemption. St Petersburg is a fantastic city - it truly deserves to be one of the world's major destination; but Nevsky Prospect would have to be bulldozed and started again for something mediocre to be put in its place. It is impossible to exaggerate how disgusting the stairwell of the building is, or the stench of the cigarette smoke. It is that bad.

"Great location!"

6.0

The location was great! The room was very small. We arrived late, so we had to meet thier staff on the street to get the key. The hotel is in an old Russian apartment building on the top floor (5th) with no elevator. The day we arrived the lights did not work in the stairways. It was very scary. But the lights did work for the remainder of the trip. Also, we requested 2 single beds and got 1 double bed. But the location and kitchen made up for these detractors. At first I wanted thought I made a big mistake, but in the end it was a good experience.

"Small, but clean and convienently located"

8.0

The rooms are small but clean, but the location is great - close to the train stations, lots of buses and trams if you don't want to walk the 15 mins to the main sights in the heat. Plenty of local eating and drinking places. Pay attention: this information could save you hours of frustration; Call the hotel during normal business hours to arrange check-in before the day you arrive. This is not a staffed location, the manager needs to meet you at the front door. It is managed by STN at Nevsky Pr,66. The entrance to the hotel is not marked and is actually round the corner on Litejnyj Pr (3rd door - the first 2 are shops). Arrange check-out time when you check-in. They speak English in the STN office, but it is limited. Final thing, these apartments are on the 5th floor of a building with no elevator!
