"Superfluous charges based solely on odor"

I have to be brutally honest in this review which includes being brutally honest about myself but I feel it's necessary. I traveled to this hotel for the last three nights of a nine night vacation as a person who has to deal with urinary incontinence. Because of my condition I take many precautions which include wearing disposable undergarments that have an extra pad lining them, and also traveling with thick large waterproof backed pads to protect the bedding of hotels in case my undergarments fail during sleep. I had no problem at any of the Marriott lodgings where I stayed for the first six nights of my visit to Florida. The last three nights were spent at this Hampton Inn. During the course of the stay, the housekeeper was tipped a minimum of $5 nightly for making up the room and was tip $10 on the day of checkout. I also tipped every other staff member who gave assistance such as with luggage handling and also the women who worked in the breakfast room. One of the problems with hotel lodgings is that the trash cans do not have any kind of covers on them. This presents a problem if you discard anything that is very odiferous and has a strong scent because the smell will permeate the air if it sits. After checkout, apparently by the time the housekeeping staff went in to change over the room the discarded undergarments which were permeated with a great deal of urine had created a great deal of odor in the room. At no time had I been in the room without an undergarment with an extra pad on and I certainly never urinated on the carpet. Also I used my pads changing them daily to protect the bed. On top of this, the bed I slept on also had a protective cover on it underneath the sheet. At check out I requested that a copy of my folio be emailed to me rather than one being printed. I never received one. Upon examining my credit card account today, I discovered a charge of $166.50 from the hotel. This did not make sense because the first two nights were paid with Hilton points and the third night was paid with a free night reward. I phoned the hotel to ask about the charges and was told by the person at the front desk that the charges were related to as she put it "pee on the carpet and the bed." This immediately upset me and I asked to speak to the manager who I was told will not be in until Monday morning. It is now Friday afternoon in Arizona. Being concerned I went to the website for my Hilton Honors account and it was there that I found that the hotel had posted a copy of the folio / receipt for the stay. As it turns out, the hotel decided that they could not rent out the room because of odor and charged me a night's room rental plus tax totaling $166.50. I find this to be ridiculous for several reasons. First off, it stated that the odor was in the carpet and the mattress. That is an assumption. Nowhere did it state that there were stains on the mattress. Nor did it state that there were stains on the carpet. Only odor was cited. As I have previously stated in this review, I did not urinate on their carpet or their bed. Certainly the only way to ascertain if the carpet had been urinated on would be for someone to get down on all fours and sniff the carpet which I highly doubt occurred. What happened is that the soiled used undergarments that had urine in them sat inside the garbage receptacles in the bathroom and the main room (because they are so small we needed to use both) along with food we had discarded and warned the housekeeping staff needed to be immediately disposed of as well as food in the refrigerator needing discarding and accumulated odor that increased by the time the housekeeping staff got to cleaning the checked out room. Any good housekeeping management is going to have professional odor removing sprays that can instantly destroy and neutralize the odor of urine. Once the garbage receptacles were emptied had the room been sprayed the odor would have been removed and the room would have been able to be rented again. There was no excuse for me to be charged and for the room not to be used especially since it is a handicapped room that the hotel does not routinely rent out every single night. Obviously management capitalized upon this opportunity to charge me for a room that they knew I had received free of charge from Hilton. So the charge was not for a cleaning fee just an odor fee of one night's room cost. It's ridiculous to think that by not renting the room for one night the other would dissipate. People leave all sorts of odors in hotel rooms which are unpleasant. This is the first time I have heard of a hotel charging for an odor that is not related to smoke or fire damage. On that basis and especially on the basis that the hotel management made no attempt whatsoever to contact me or discuss this with me, and just went ahead and charged me with no notification whatsoever, I cannot recommend this location.

Location

Overall maintenance was poor. Website said it was recently upgraded but bathroom was in poor shape. Shower faucet would not stop dripping. No stopper in the sink. Very noisy air conditioning system. No in room safe.

"Bad management!"

After asking for a split charge for our room, the front desk associate mangled the transaction so badly that it took us three days to straighten it out. After arrival and being charged incorrectly, we were phoned (at midnight) to come down to the desk. we were sleeping. we were then charged again overnight in error. when asking for a manager we were told no managers are available. that request happened sat, sun and mon with no return of call until Tuesday. i find it interesting that after causing so many issues with our payments, the only phone call came after I wrote a bad review. typical. pacifying guests while not understanding the issue is deliberate and insulting. the problem was the billing, but the bigger problem was no one to resolve the issue or have any idea of what they were doing.

Very clean; staff went above and beyond to help anyway they could including helping me to stall my future son-in-law in the lobby while my daughter went to the room to prepare for their proposal!! It was phenomenal!! The room was spacious and the bathroom probably one of the nicest I’ve EVER seen in a hotel room!! The bed comfy and the pillows extraordinary!! Thanks Hampton and staff—we were extremely satisfied!! 💜
