Reef Palms Motel

The room was comfortable, clean and roomy. I liked the layout of the room. The provisions for cooking were adequate and the fridge was cold and had lots of space for food. The room had great lighting which is important when eyesight is not the best. We felt safe and secure. Great car park.

Only the location. But I checked out immediately as this was not a good enough reason to stay.

I put in a complaint about this and booking.com couldn't help me. I requested a full refund as the motel was not safe as advertised, and I returned the key and checked out the same day I was checking in, as I did not feel safe using their services at all. Reef Palms ignored my requests for a full refund and also won't discuss the security and safety concerns. Broken keys on arrival, exit signs on the floor of the hallway, smells strongly of tobacco everywhere despite no smoking signs. Reception was reporting a break in and theft that very morning from a repeat offender who kept the security gate keys to the premises (management tried to say it was not their Property but I was standing at reception when this happened and the reception lady was informing me about it). The back screen door doesn't lock, the glass sliding door is just a flimsy snib lock. Security and safety aside, the room was not much better. Hair trimmings around the sink, drip marks (maybe a leak?) down the mirrors, stains on the white towels. I wanted the location so I could walk to the blood donor centre and in the end cancelled my appointments and arranged emergency accommodation elsewhere.

Location and amenities

Lack of people skills, communication skills, approachability, and problem solving skills from front desk staff, including the manager. Lack of empathy for customers when bookings are cancelled by hotel, causing significant difficulties for the future guest.
