"Great location, friendly staff, and a very nice change from your typical hotel."

Such a great property that is well maintained and walking distance to everything. The owners were very easy to communicate and you can easily tell how much they care about their business and customers.

"Quaint, peaceful, and sadly slightly overpriced."

The charm was quite evident immediately. Both outside and inside. The grounds were immaculately kept. I loved the whimsy of Margeโ€™s collections and stories behind her antiques. The breakfasts were delightful. Not just the meats and eggs, but the bread and fruits were also great. Picky eaters will be thrilled. I *loved* the constant coffee in real mugs. And for such stylized rooms, I was surprised to find how comfortable the furniture was. Yes, even the oversized four post bed! Marge gave us good information on how to get into town. And she was very kind to let my daughter and myself spend time with her magical pets in the home.

My main concern: The primary reason for my booking the more expensive โ€œheavenlyโ€ suite was the Jacuzzi tub, since baths are always highlights of my vacations. I was disappointed to find on the first night that the hot water did not work well enough to fill the tub beyond a few inches. I let Marge know that evening, and told her how important it was to me. She said it had โ€œnever happened beforeโ€œ but made no further attempts to make it right. When paying exactly $890 for a two-night stay in that room, I would have really appreciated a room discount or future stay discount. Smaller details: The shower has shampoo & shower gel affixed to the wall, but no conditioner. When I asked about conditioner Marge was kind enough to let me sample some of hers, and said the shampoo was conditioning. But to have to ask for conditioner in a $450/night room felt off. There are no further toiletries or creams beyond the liquid handsoaps at the sinks. So be sure to bring your own bath supplies and moisturizers. And lastly, although the hotel is steps from town, the beginning of those steps are uphill on a mulch path, then under some caution tape for roadwork (Iโ€™m sure it will be fixed soon), then around an apartment complex and down about three blocks before hitting town. There is a free golf cart taxi service throughout Mt. Dora (called freebee), but they will not drop off or pick up at the Heron Cay. Thereโ€™s a local golf cart tour for $20 a person that will pick you up, but the first two times we called they were not available. If the hotel had a drop off/pick up service into town for guests, even just 2 times a day at the same location, it would be so much more convenient for those with mobility issues. And such a magical touch. Iโ€™m sure its not an easy business, and Marge is uniquely gifted at what she does. If the rooms were even 15-20% less expensive I likely would not have been as put off by the inconveniences.
