Red Roof Inn & Suites Commerce - Athens

I needed a place to stop for one night before going to a business meeting in Athens. I checked in with friendly and attentive people who gave me a spotlessly clean ground floor room. I was worried with all the trucks parked nearby I would hear engine noise all night......I heard nothing. The internet worked well, lots of TV channels, comfortable bed, good shower pressure. The watered down juices and coffee the next morning in the lobby made the "breakfast experience" forgettable but there are lots of restaurants nearby. Change out the dim lighting over the bathroom sink, it makes shaving and application of makeup difficult. Finally, I could have stayed at the Hampton Inn next door for $35 more. Red Rood is a much better deal.

Based on Trip Advisor reviews, I cancelled my reservation @ Holiday Inn & saved well over $50 staying at Red Roof Inn. Smiling Millie at check-in was friendly & efficient, placing me in a downstairs park in front room as requested. But...when I pulled around the the back of the property to my room, #125, my heart sank. Dude upstairs was sitting outside & loudly rapping to headphones, um, ok, but lent to kinda sketchy vibe & I felt weird unloading my truck & began to wonder about the clientele, Non-smoking room but cigarette butts all over outside. Room didn't quite match online pics. It was fairly clean but a little rough around the edges, windows dirty, furniture worn, rust & smudges on the wall sconces. I definitely didn't walk barefooted. Found a couple daddy long-leg spiders in the shower, ceiling paint peeling above shower head, slight red mold in the corners at caulking. Dim lighting over sink, small hole in the wall. Fridge w/freezer section, micro & in-room coffee. No clock but utilized the clock function on microwave. Electric power strips on the nightstands were loose so that anything you plugged in didn't make a good connection, rendering them useless. I finally located an outlet that worked so I was able to plug in the surge protected power strip I travel with to charge phone ipad, etc. But the process of hunting for a working outlet put me face to face with the areas that don't get cleaned very often, behind the night stands & bed, yuck. Limited basic DirecTV channeling but ample free wifi signal so I streamed via laptop. I considered using the laundry room but it was dirty w/overflowing trash can etc so I decided to pass. Bed linens decent but pillows flat, towels scratchy. I was a little uncomfortable walking my dog after dark with other guests sitting outside their rooms, drinking beer & smoking cigarettes. Given the combination of admittedly small but numerous off-putting issues, I don't know if I'd stay here again. I'd probably pay more for a nicer hotel or power nap at a rest area. Still, all in all, not entirely awful & I reminded myself you get what you pay for, wondering when did I become such a snob?!? Ask to see your room 1st to see if it will meet your needs.

Freiendly staff, quiet, nice location, clean room. Probably one of the better Red Roof Inns.

Could of saved $30 if I booked it directly with Red Roof Inn.
