"The General Visits The Colonial Inn Meriden, CT"

8.0

Nice attentive staff making daily improvements and thoughtful of guest safety and health. The staff changed my door key and entrance in under 7 min flat and arrived in a quick response to fix my clogged toilet they are responsible people who are honest and fair.

"Add a few dollars and hopefully get something better"

6.0

We were traveling nearby and stopped for a night's sleep. The staff at this hotel is very nice and helpful. Unfortunately, the room was disappointing. It is very old and not very well kept. When you walk in it is quite stuffy, and if you want to open a window you will find that window mechanisms are in bad shape. The window at the back of the room actually falls from its frame if you try to open it. The hotel is also quite close to a street with noisy traffic. The pillow cases were dirty, and the carpet has certainly seen better days. The refrigerator in the room is a plus. Even for the relatively cheap price, I'd expect a little bit more.

"Old and run down"

2.0

Although the room was clean, that is about all I can say positive about it. when you pull in there are many rundown building in the lot, I think they are for long term stays? Made us nervous the check in desk is behind glass and you talk to the check in person through the glass with small metal hole to exchange papers. Junk yard next door and many stray cats around. Continental breakfast consists of coffee and a few packaged snack that looked like they came from vending machine and even after contacting front desk twice never got free WiFi to work. Over all old and run down, would not recommend!

"Avoid."

2.0

Where can I begin? Aside from the newish sign announcing that it is a Red Carpet Inn, the complex has been there for a LONG time, and it shows. It appears to have originally been a motel as there are many small cottages in the parking lot and a large motel building at the rear. It appears unkempt and in very serious need of updating. At least some paint. Some of the cottages appear to have people permanently living in them. I counted at least 4 abandoned cars in the lot with broken headlamps, weeds growing up through the wheels and flat tires. We booked the room (#107) a few day prior as we were looking for a place to rest as we needed to be in the next town the next morning. I wanted a "whirlpool" tub to relax in so the "spa" tub was advertised with a king sized bed. The room was a gaudy representation of late 1970's early 1980's decor with a 30" tube TV that got about 11 channels, all static. The room's A/C didn't work so someone placed a tiny window unit in the back of the room. I called it the "little AC that couldn't" There was a king sized bed in there but it was by far the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in. The mattress was very hard and worn out. But the Pièce de résistance was the large, blue, heart shaped "spa tub" in the middle of the suite RIGHT NEXT TO THE BED and surrounded by mirrors. I'm sorry to say but "bad 1980's porno movie set" sprung to mind. Once we saw the room we wanted to leave, but virtually every other place to stay within a reasonable distance was booked as of a few days ago and we were stuck. Honestly we wanted to laugh, There wasn't enough kitsch factor nor was it ironic enough to not be taken seriously. This place, or at least this room looked like it was the only ones available for booking. Much of the rest of the place looked like people were living there. At least I hope so and those weren't stray cats living on the upper balcony. The place just looked like people stopped caring a long time ago. I don't want to imply that it was dirty, it wasn't. It is just in very serious need of an overhaul.

So I'm looking for cheap hotels to stay infill I get my apartment don't have much money to spend so this was ideal... Price was really cheap..but going with a four year old who has asthma really bad I have to check it out first... I go there just right now to check it out he was awkwardly staring opens a room... There is stains n mold literally everywhere no towels remote toilet paper... I just turned around walked away and left not saying a word. It looked like a crime scene covered in mold.... I can't stay here not even if it was free

"not up to chain franchise standards or worth $60 a night"

2.0

I inquired about this place with the power outages. I stayed here in the past, both in the older weekly cottages up front and the newer building (built in approx 1985-90 I was told) in a kitchenette room. This place is supposed to has have been renovated to meet Red Carpet Inn Standards, but still has to same 1980s old room furnishings and furniture of when I stayed there in 2007. , The older mid century cottages in the front part of the property has better sound insulation between the room walls. than the newer building's paper thin walls. in other words when you stay in the older building you can't hear the people in the room next door to you, but in the newer building, I could hear people fighting and the blaring tv in the room next door in the new building. The beautiful green mountain views are non exsistent. The kitchnette and bathroom were from the mid 80s as well as the hot tub tiles. The older cottages (buildings)are run as a seperate entity under their old Colonial Park Motel name. Newer back building with Christmas tree lights is the Red Carpet Inn. Outside apperance of property and peple hanging around there scare people away. Not safe. .

"If you need inexpensive accommodations"

This might be the place for you. It was Homecoming week at Wesleyan and we couldn't find anything closer. The proprieters were very accommodating, however, and gave great directions. It satisfied our needs.
