"Cold breakfast, sandfly bites"

8.0

Comfortable bed, lovely staff and breakfast was cold mostly- oh if only the Fred chicken was hot off the wok! Whose idea was it to wear sticker bands to enter pool area? Better use brain cells to solve sand fly issue- preventive or cure.

"very disappointing"

2.0

Unfortunately, although the resort atmosphere is very nice and the surroundings are beautiful, the villa itself is poorly maintained. The villa was dirty, the furniture looked old and almost broken, and the toilet was in very bad condition (dark and unhygienic). For a villa priced at around RM400 per night, it honestly felt more like a basic homestay rather than a proper resort villa. The value does not match the price at all. As for the breakfast, it was very disappointing and not tasty at all. Overall, the location and ambience have great potential, but serious improvement in maintenance, cleanliness, and food quality is needed.

"Avoid at All Costs: Shockingly Rude Staff and Zero Hospitality"

2.0

I booked this stay for my family. We arrived at 1 PM, and while I was well aware that standard check-in is at 3 PM, I visited the reception after a stroll to request an early check-in. I asked the staff to notify me if the room became available early, as I was heading out for lunch. Unfortunately, the reception staff was incredibly rude. Not only was the request handled unprofessionally, but I was also told in an abrupt manner: 'You want to pay? We charge for early check-in.' Having traveled an average of 180+ days per year since 2017, I have never encountered such poor hospitality. I ultimately chose to walk out and book another hotel rather than stay where guests are treated so poorly. Horrible service and absolutely not recommended.

"Pleasant stay"

8.0

Overall, it's q pleasant stay. We went during monsoon season but it did not stop us for having an enjoyable time. My child loves the water park and pools. I love the private beach. Facilities may need some upgrade. I like they imposed a strict rules to pool and water park user which give us who stay in the hotel a peaceful mind. Our room is big in size. Bed is comfy. It has a sliding door connected to the water park. Definitely a plus point. Just a small setback: the dining area for breakfast bis rather small. It could not accommodate too big crowd especially when it is peak season and there are group booking. We ended up queing for quite a while just to wait for the table. It was not a pleasant experience when it was a rainy day. Hope the management can look into splitting the crowd to different dining location especially if high volume of booking is expected on certain season.

"Needs updating to make it 4 stars..."

6.0

This place has great potential and the setting is beautiful. Great pool. The villas are dated and weirdly have two different locking rooms for a family villa...really inappropriate when staying with children. The rooms don't connect without leaving and re entering with a key. The private pool is a great feature but the inside of the rooms needs updating. Shower cubicle door was broken, door handles came off when used and there wasn't enough chairs for people to sit on. Weird and dated but has so much potential. Oh and the room service food was horrific.

"'Average' 3-Star Resport - not 4 Star!"

6.0

Firstly, this is definitely a 3 star hotel/ resort, not the advertised 4 star. For the price-point of around RM200 a night (inclusive of breakfast) the hotel and its facilities were ‘average’. Average in their provision, condition and presentation. At least in the Capital Wing our room was somewhat ‘tired’ in appearance. I was upgraded from a standard ‘Superior Room’ to a ‘Deluxe’, with the specified King Bed. Shortly after arrival I queried with Reception whether it was the specified ‘non-smoking’ room due to the faint smell of cigarette smoke (and the presence of an ash-tray), and was assured it was ‘but some guests don’t follow the rules’ (that didn’t explain the ash-tray in the room, and noting the small balcony had no furniture to encourage the use of the balcony for smoking). An offer was made to send staff to spray the room with ‘perfume’, which I declined as that would likely have made my asthmatic condition worse. A liberal scattering by us in the room of the frangipani flowers from the on-site trees seemed to do the trick as regards the smell. Toiletries provided were inadequate. One tiny cake of soap and one each of tiny body-wash and shampoo/ conditioner for TWO people (ie NOT PER PERSON). For the first time in my experience Reception declined to provide additional toiletries when requested, but did agree to send additional towels and toilet paper (no spare toilet paper and only a part-used roll was provided on arrival). The room was reasonably comfortable. The main issue with the room was having to phone Reception mid-morning on the second day regarding the loud hammering and drilling noise from maintenance work in adjacent room/s – requesting that if the noise continued a change of room be provided. Reception arranged for the noise to stop (the noise then became much more distant, and they were then presumably annoying somebody else). One of the three pools was not in use, and the other two (one children’s) were adequate for the minimal usage that weekend. Although finding an unlocked entrance to the main pool was difficult and confusing. The photos of the main pool are somewhat misleading, as about 30% of the total area is less than 10cm deep and serves no apparent purpose (other than to make the pool look bigger). Pool toys are available – for hire. As with all beaches at Cherating, the beach is not safe for swimming (red flag was raised, but no specific warning was given by staff). Unfortunately, that weekend was wet, cloudy and windy, so my photographs of the beautiful beach were not great. The buffet breakfast was sub-par, with just 4 ‘warm’ offerings for Asians and 3 for Westerners (chicken sausage, baked beans and hash browns) plus the usual Continental items and some fresh fruit. This may have been impacted by my visiting during Ramadan (when presumably only non-Moslems were eating breakfast). I don’t know what if any provision was made for Moslem guests for Sahur at about 5am. I wasn’t up at that time. The Itftah Malaysian evening Buffet was extensive and reasonably priced, and was reasonably well attended, obviously principally by Moslems. The ‘Beach Restaurant’ menu (I didn’t eat there, except for breakfast) is the same as the room service menu – very limited as regards available options. Alcohol is served from a separate bar, and prices are very high, even for Malaysia. RM44 per glass and RM150 a bottle for a non-disclosed winery Chilean wine (your choice is unspecified variety 'red' or 'white', and of this wine only). For disabled persons, the hotel disabled ramps do NOT comply with the 1 in 12 (internal) or 1 in 20 (external) Malaysian Standard Code of Practice MS 1184:2014. I don't know whether this review will permit my photographs to be attached, but one ramp I photographed had about 45% gradient!! This was the most extreme example I saw in the hotel complex (and was obviously completely unusable), but several other ramps would have required extreme effort to use. With no elevators, disabled/ mobility impaired guests would need to specify a ground floor room, and would still have problems getting around the resort. At least one staircase in the Capital Wing has no lighting (and no light fitting), so have your phone battery charged to use the torch at night! I’m sure this is also not to Code! Would I recommend for other guests? YES, if you expect 3 star facilities and presentation (and prices). NO if your expectation is 4 star. NO for aged or mobility-impaired people.

Serene and tranquil entrance with welcoming exceptionality friendly and helpful staff this was an amazing experience. The setting near on the beach surrounded by tropical nature in all sense is truly an unforgettable life experience. I like to give a few words to one staff member in particular. Whenever you decide to endulge yourself with paradise, I highly recommend staying in Holiday Village!
