"NOT for American Travelers"

4.0

This is NOT an Americans' destination hotel in Tunis. The hotel's amenities were spare, at best, and non-existent, at worst. Their internet advert on Expedia shows a grand marble entry with room service and clean rooms. NOT! The entry was the nicest thing about this hotel! The food options are not for vegetarians, or God-forbid, those with food allergies. Additionally, the menu is only in French and Arabic, so if one is not able to read the menu, good luck! The room itself was kind of gross, actually. The marble counters, tables, and wooden bureau hadn't been cleaned in who knows how long! Good thing I brought handy wipes to clean and disinfect the surfaces. The bathroom, overall, was decent. The large tub and shower seemed clean, but the towels were so rough; as if they were washed with industrial-strength lye. The grossest part, however, were the throw rugs. They were disgusting! I don't think they have EVER been washed or vacuumed or shaken out. Good thing I always bring extra socks to wear! The bed was decent; if not a bit too hard, but don't look under the thin mattress pad, you'll be sorry you did. The continental breakfast was good if you could eat wheat, as there were so many different types of pastry available. The coffee was good, however, albeit no cream was to be had. Americans like cream in their coffee! And that's the point, really. This hotel is simply not for American travelers, so if you're from the US - stay away from the Hotel Diplomat.

"Reasonable hotel"

8.0

This was our first visit to Tunis and Tunisia. When we arrived from UK we travelled direct to Yasmine Hammamet for 5 nights and then we returned to Tunis for 2 nights. The hotel was clean and tidy. Our room was reasonable size and had all the amenities. The Bath had shower attached. The bathroom was clean but it could do with refurbishment. The staff were polite. There was only one pillow in the room and we requested couple of more pillows which were brough to us almost straight away. There wasn't much choice for breakfast however it was reasonable. The hotel is located in a very busy street with all car accessories and repair shops. Although, there was no noise from the street into our room.

"If You Have To"

4.0

Hotel Diplomat is located just a few minutes walk away from the North end of the medina, although you must walk through what appears to be the car repair district of Tunis...not the most scenic locale. Faded grandeur is the key idea of the hotel. I'm sure it was impressive twenty years ago. The service was indifferent from the male staff; however all the female staff we interacted with were very helpful and friendly. Overall, the hotel seemed overpriced. But the worst aspect was the inferno- like temperature of our room.

Enjoyed my stay. Wish there were more than one English channel (BBC). Liked the breakfast, and you can have it in your room also if you want.

They gave me everything promised. Car parking, internet, breakfast. The interior decor was "old 1960's glory"

"Recommend this hotel"

comfortable close location from central Tunis. It's a bit crowded area but if you walk little bit you can find many places to visit around. Staff are nice and Room is clean though it needs better interior. Above all, I had very comfortable time staying in this hotel.

"OK for Short Stay"

6.0

This hotel was centrally located in the business district. Service was fair to good. Although most of the staff were OK the doormen seemed to be the most helpful on the staff. Breakfast had a good mix of protein and carbs. The rooms were clean. The light in the room was limited but adequate. For some reason the rooms were damp and this dampness transferred to our cloths. All in all a reasonable experience.
