Fairmount Hotel Shimla

No wifi, no electricity points to charge your electronic devices, very small rooms. Not worth the money they charge for the rooms.

Fairmount Hotel is okay if you need a break from the noise of the city and enjoy isolation. But this will be at the extra cost of having to commute to and from the Mall and main Shimla area. While a free shuttle service is offered by the hotel, this doesn't operate until the afternoon. Meaning, that if you need to catch ongoing transportation - often leaving in the morning - the hotel will 'arrange' transportation for you at 300 rupees per trip. The irony here is that you can get a taxi from the Mall to Fairmount for 200-250 rupees. I decided to check out a night earlier than planned (and paid for) because there was no internet service available, and I had work to complete. The hotel is in a good location in that you are immediately in the forest if you want to explore the surrounding area. And the junior staff are really trying their best to help (not so sure about the senior staff)!

The hotel is surrounded by lush green forest and beautiful scenery. Staff is very congenial and supportive. Super deluxe rooms are pristine and comfortable, deluxe rooms are also good but super deluxe are worth its money. Quality and taste of food is also great. The only downside is that the pick and drop of there shuttle is slightly away from mall and one requires about 10-15 min wall to reach there otherwise the hotel is highly recommended.

Bad: 1. Room was anything but super deluxe. 2. Had cigarette smell. 3. Bed linen not clean. 4. Didn't have any view except if you open the bathroom window. 5. Final stretch to the hotel 100-200 mts very unsafe. 6. No electricity atleast for last 5 hrs before checkout. (Maybe accidental but no backup not justified in snowy conditions). Good: 1. Room service was prompt though. When you go out to stay, point is to relax and not run around to find the room promised/advertised. As i was staying just for 1 day/night so didn't make a fuss about it. But on the whole won't suggest or stay in future.
