Hotel Gletschergarten

Excellent location, very comfortable rooms, great food value in restaurant. We stayed here for 4 nights and fully enjoyed the stay; very helpful and friendly staff

The setting is unbelievable, like all hotels in Grindelwald. Our room opened onto a spacious patio with amazing views. The room itself was fine, nothing remarkable about it. During a September visit, we would have liked to have utilized the sauna but we were told it was only open on request during the "summer months." We would have preferred to stay somewhere with more amenities such as a pool or hot tub but we had a pleasant 1-night stay here nonetheless.

We stayed at Hotel Gletschergarten for a week and loved every day! We appreciated being walking distance to downtown but a bit quieter location. Gabriela and Gery were so helpful with hiking and excursion ideas, and we could buy our tickets right at the front desk! We ate dinner here for half the time and breakfast every morning so got to know the delightful and friendly girls that were serving in the dining room. We had a spacious corner room with large deck overlooking the mountains and loved coming "home" each day! We will stay here again when we return to this region. Also, we were able to do some much-needed laundry in the basement machines as we had been traveling for 2 weeks prior to our stay.

The owners/hosts were exceptional. You were greeted as soon as you walked in the door. Everything was in order and they gave great details on room, meals and local activities. The breakfast was wonderful and service exceptional. If you stay here, please be sure and take the path behind the hotel. Views are breath taking. I would not hesitate to recommend or stay here again. A++++

Excellent location across the street from kirche bus stop and a block from First Lift. So easy to ride train into Grindelwald, walk across street to bus depot. Bus does not stop automatically so press STOP for kirche. FYI you can walk from hotel to Bahnhofplatz in 15 minutes. Helpful hosts provide hiking maps and trail suggestions and conveniently sell and book excursion tickets, especially helpful with Jungfraujoch seat reservations. Room Decor was Swiss charm with decent views of mountains. We booked accommodation and half-board directly with hotel, easy to communicate, and courtesy local tourist cards were emailed to us before arrival. For expensive Switzerland, hotel was good value.

What a wonderful experience that we had at this small and very charming, family owned, and family run hotel. It’s not often that you get the opportunity to stay at a hotel that is a 125+ years old and still run by the same family that opened it 125+ yrs ago. The staff here were amazing. They were professional, courteous, knowledgeable of the area and helpful. I’d like to make a shout out to Matt, Gerhard and Katrina, who went out of their way to help us and to make our stay comfortable. The best dinners that we had during our 2 week vacation, while traveling throughout Switzerland, were here, at Hotel Gletschergarten. The location of the hotel is perfect…close and convenient to everything, but not in the middle of the busy tourist area. We were thankful for that! We would recommend anyone traveling Switzerland to stay in Grindelwald (one of our favorite stays of six in total) and to stay at the Hotel Gletschergarten. It was an unforgettable experience!!

We had a wonderful experience at this establishment, staying for 2 nights while hiking nearby. The hotel was cozy and charming; both the rooms and the dining area. The location was easily walkable from the train station and provided enough distance from the daily crowds to provide a quiet, relaxing experience. Rooms were clean, good size, with a balcony; plenty of room to spread out. Lastly, as a plus, we were able to purchase our train tickets from them.

A wonderful stay at Gletschergarten. The accommodations were exceptional and our hosts Gary and Abby were warm and helpful. Since it is not in the center of town, it is quieter than other hotels.

We had a truly wonderful stay at Hotel Gletschergarten in Grindelwald. After a long and rewarding day of hiking in the beautiful mountains, arriving at the hotel felt like coming home. The cozy atmosphere, stunning views, and attention to detail made it the perfect place to rest and recharge. What made our stay truly unforgettable, though, were our hosts, Gabriela and Gery. Their warmth, kindness, and genuine hospitality made us feel so welcome and cared for — something every tired hiker deeply appreciates! Thank you both for your generosity and for making our time in Grindelwald so special. We hope to return one day soon.
