"Lovely rural retreat"

10.0

We spent three days being looked after by the wonderful Alessio and his team. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Delicious breakfasts and dinners gave us the energy to explore the sights of Assissi. The pool and gardens are immaculate and the lovely dogs and five baby kittens added to the joy of our trip.

"Weekend retreat."

10.0

I stayed for 3 nights for a personal retreat. It was amazing. The family is so kind and helpful. The food is out of this world - the best in Italy. It is worth just going for the 6 course homemade meals. I did not have a car to go sight seeing but I was fine to take walks and enjoy the pool. I will go back.

"Excellent location "

10.0

Excellent location, very friendly and accommodating staff, spacious comfortable room with fantastic view across the valley. Home cooked food was prepared especially for us as there was only one other couple at the hotel and it was very nice/simple Italian food. We would have liked to stay a few more nights here to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and surroundings!

"Ideal for relaxing & enjoying the Italian campagna"

10.0

When you visit Assisi, you are already searching to feel close to God, and what better than nature and the beauty of His creation to give you that feeling!! This place is the ideal retreat. The hospitality of the owners and the personal attention is incomparable to any other place you've stayed at before. The place is surrounded by the immaculate beauty of nature, in the distance the sound of church bells and nearby nothing but the sound of birds and crickets. If you love walking and/or jogging in nature you will love this place. I would get up at 5:45am and take a long jog/walk on a trail surrounded by green fields and shaded by all sorts of trees only to enjoy on my way back to the residence the sunrise while I stroll past gardens of olive trees. At 8am sit back and enjoy a homemade Italian breakfast while sipping on the best coffee you could ever have. The owner is a young warm and friendly guy that makes you feel as though you've been friends forever. Relax by the pool during the warm afternoon while reading a book that you can pick-out from their library. In the evening come savor a five-dish dinner freshly made just for you and enjoy a wide selection of their best wines. Believe me if I tell you, you cannot get enough of this place! Go there, leave your work and worries behind you and just experience what life is really supposed to be about... Thank you Alessio for a wonderful experience... I will see you again real soon!

"Apartments and hotel are completely separate"

6.0

It's important to note, since it's not clear from the booking sites, that Santa Maria Degli Ancillotti and Il Falchetto apartments are separate entities. We were given keys to the apartment and did not enter the premises of the hotel which is down the road with a separate gate. In fact they could not even accommodate us for breakfast or dinner since they were fully booked. We arrived around midnight and rang the bell at the hotel. There was no answer for several minutes and when someone finally answered she said check-in ended at 10 pm and to return tomorrow. Only when we told her that we had 2 babies in the car did she agree to come out and meet us. She was very unpleasant and continuously scolded us for arriving at that hour (despite the fact that the reservation stated that late arrivals would be accomodated). In fairness we later understood that it was a family run business but beware that if you arrive past 10 pm you will not be welcomed! The apartment itself was comfortable, clean and the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to cook. There was no cleaning service and towels and sheets were not changed during the 5 nights we stayed. The location was a perfect point from which to visit various towns in the area. The view was beautiful.

"Beautiful accommodation, incredible hospitality"

10.0

On a recent trip to Umbria my husband and I used Santa Maria degli Ancilloti (in the new farmhouse - only 400 years old!) for 3 nights and we really couldn't fault it. The hospitality of Alex and his family was first class - so welcoming and friendly - you can understand why his customers keep coming back. The location was beautiful and very well equipped, although you did need to think about whether you needed anything from the local supermarket 10 minutes away before you sat down to watch the sunset with a vino. The option of dining at the main farmhouse restaurant was taken advantage of and we were not disappointed. An easy drive to Assisi and lots of beautiful Umbrian towns. I will certainly recommend to anyone I know.

"Wonderful view, nice rooms and very nice property."

8.0

My husband and I stayed in one of the guest suites (mini-apartment) while in Umbria. We loved the rural location. The views are wonderful and the hotel and apartments are very nice. We had dinner at the hotel one evening and it was the best meal we had while in Italy which is saying something. The nearest village is about a mile away so you will want to have a car when staying at this location.

"Santa Maria Degli Ancillotti apartments"

8.0

We stayed in one of the apartments, which are quite some distance away from the main hotel (about 300 m) in a different gated area. The apartments are comfortable, but the kitchen is very small and the cooking equipment in our 4 person apartment would only suffice 2 people. There is also a very small sofa, which again is just about fine for two people but would not seat more. The air conditioning is not as strong as conventional air conditioning, so it was able to cool the rooms down but not as much as one might expect. The apartments have a shared terrace (no private terrace), which can become slightly uncomfortable if some of the other quests smoke (which is very common in Italy). Also, if your apartment is not on the ground floor, you will have to carry everything (food, drink) down the stairs. There is a swimming pool with a separate seating area for each apartment, so there is no worry that all seat and umbrellas are taken by others. The swimming pool is quite basic, with a constant depth of about 1.20 meters, so no shallower area for small children. Also, there is only a three step ladder to get in and out of the pool, which again would only be suitable for mobile adults. Finally, guests are allowed to bring dogs and these dogs are allowed to run around the premises freely. This is great if you are a dog lover, but bot so great of you are not.
