Riad Le Calife

From the moment we stepped into Riad Le Calife, it felt like walking into a time machine. The thick walls of this ancient building seem to whisper thousands of stories from the people who passed through Fez over the centuries – Muslims, Jews, French, Christians – all somehow still present in the atmosphere of the house. Then, as you move deeper inside, you’re suddenly in the early 20th century: elegant Art Deco pieces blending effortlessly with Islamic ornaments and artwork. Old radios and a 1950s piano stand like small, nostalgic time capsules – quiet reminders of another era. It’s exactly in this interplay between ancient, vintage, and modern that the true charm of this boutique riad lies. Yasmine & Alex, the owners, carefully arranged every detail in the Riad,  from the paintings on the walls to the carefully chosen ornaments in each corner. More than once, we caught ourselves thinking, 'How did they even think of this?' They genuinely enjoyed our enjoyment, making us feel special at every single moment. Their generous spirit of hospitality clearly “infected” their staff (Fatima, Said, Mohamed), as well: always present, always kind, but never intrusive. Another thing we loved: guests actually looked at each other, smiled, and started conversations – something surprisingly rare these days. Perhaps it’s the atmosphere of the house, or maybe it’s the (un)intentionally slightly weaker Wi-Fi signal that nudges you to be present rather than always online. Either way, it works. Our stay at Riad Le Calife was a unique journey into the past while still enjoying all the comforts of modern life. It was the perfect getaway before getting immersed in the 9,000 walkways of the mysterious medina of Fez. Super friendly owners and staff. Provide tips to make stay in Fez a great experience. The Riad and room are beautiful. So nice. Breakfast and diner is great. Location is perfect. Car park available close to Riad.

La déco, la gentillesse, des patrons, leur dévouement et toutes leurs bonnes adresses pour passer un agréable séjour à Fez. On a l’impression d’être comme à la maison.

Easily the most beautiful, romantic, antique-filled riad or hotel we have stayed at in our 3-week journey through Morocco. We also had the pleasure of getting to know the husband and wife owners who tastefully renovated the 400+ year old building to its picturesque state and treat their guests like family.

Le charme du riad décoré avec goût l'accueil et les conseils du couple propriétaire Yasmine & Alexandre ainsi que son staff La qualité du petit déjeuner et dîner, on mange comme à la maison. L'emplacement idéal pour tout visiter à pied ou rapidement en taxi N'hésitez pas également à tester le hammam & Spa du Palais Faraj ! Nous y retournerons les yeux fermés ! Foncez !

I don't give out many 10s, but this place deserves it. Alex and Yasmin run a top notch service, gorgeous Riad. The arranged dinner on arrival is well worth it, probably one of the better meals we had in Fes and the breakfast was also quite delicious. The also arranged private your guide Aziz lasted 7 hours through the Medina and he was such a patient, knowledgeable, and helpful guide. Everyone who works there is so helpful and friendly. Do not hesitate to book here!
