Riad ELIZZI

The location of the riad is great for exploring - only about 15-20 minutes walk from the medina. Also good spot for excursions. Most of them won't be able to get you directly from the riad (the roads are too narrow) but all have 5 minute walk away pick up locations. There's a lot of places to eat and explore locally. The riad itself is very beautiful, and the roof terrace is a great bonus. I stayed alone on the ground floor directly next to the courtyard so not sure how big other rooms are but mine was fine for me and would have been perfectly big enough for two people. Good sized bed + bathroom with plenty of space for clothes etc. The breakfast was good and the staff were lovely - you can tell they love hosting guests and I don't think anything would have been too much trouble. I felt very safe staying here by myself which was really important for me having never visited Morocco before.

None of the negatives are the fault of the riad or the staff - more about me not doing enough research before travelling. The riad is a little difficult to find (I think this is common as all riads are tucked away down side roads) - my transfer wasn't that clear when dropping me on the side of the road and my maps didn't send me to the correct location so I was wandering in the dark by myself. I ended up calling the riad owner who helped me instantly, but I would advise using the actual address given rather than typing in 'riad elizzi' into maps, and dropping a pin so you can always find it again. I stayed on the ground floor of the riad as mentioned - again, I didn't really do enough research but they are all designed around the courtyard with minimal sound proofing, this meant that you can hear everything that's going on, guests coming and going late into the evening, talking, locking doors, phone calls, breakfast being prepared early in the morning. It meant that I didn't get much sleep during my stay which I find hard (this may not be a problem for everyone) so bring ear plugs.

The position is good and central, but also quiet and peaceful so you get to rest well far from the noise of the city.

The room was clean but in the rest of the building including the common areas (entrance, patio, terrace, etc) the smell of pee is very strong and disturbing. I also would like to make a note regarding the non-flexibility of the staff. With two days of notice I kindly asked if on our last day it was possible to collect our breakfast the night before (we had an early flight). I was told that this was not possible, but I know for sure (as I got a message from them about it) that if you book an excursion with their riad they will prepare for you an early breakfast.

Beautiful, cosy Riad, felt very homely and all the staff was lovely and super helpful. Rooms were clean, bathroom was amazing and had hot water. Breakfast was delicious and fresh every morning, they had indoor area for breakfast that allowed us to be away from the cold weather/ rain. The bathroom had a door and exhaust. Beds were comfortable and clean. There was a wardrobe in the room to put our stuff out of the way and a hair dryer and fresh towels. Nothing to complain about

Not much we didn’t like, just wish there was a bit more light in the rooms and maybe a full length mirror outside the bathroom.

The room was nice, even big. Very clean.

The roof top was not maintained. The chair cushions were torn and faded. Everything looked old. Shower almost no pressure.
