Belle Bonne Motel

We booked the “Apartment with Garden View” (ground floor near the garden and playground) more than a month in advance because we were travelling with two young children and a dog. The booking was confirmed and fully paid. However, when we arrived for check-in, we were given a completely different room upstairs facing the main road (“Two-Bedroom Apartment with Balcony”) without any prior notice or explanation. We only discovered this after pointing at the ground-floor unit shown in the Booking.com photos to confirm it was ours. Staff then told us that unit had been given to another group booking. The owner later explained that a large group had booked the whole building, so our original apartment was no longer available. We explained clearly that we specifically booked the downstairs garden unit because travelling with children and a dog makes upstairs accommodation very difficult. Instead, we were shown another downstairs room in unacceptable condition — dark, dirty, mouldy, with peeling walls. At that point, we had no choice but to request a refund and urgently find another place to stay in Christchurch on the same day. This completely disrupted our trip. We spent hours searching for accommodation, parking the car, calling places, and paying much higher last-minute prices because nothing had been booked in advance. The most concerning part is that this situation felt intentional. It appears the property accepted another booking for the room we had already reserved and paid for. If we had been overseas tourists unfamiliar with Christchurch, we may have had no option except to accept the poor-quality replacement room. Very disappointing and stressful experience. I would not recommend this property.

Very old. Shower was mouldy and dirty. Kitchen wasn't much better.

Beds were unmade from previous guests, rubbish was still in room from previous guests

Room was not SERVICED on second day of stay, room did not reflect the photo in Booking.com, needing new fry pan, keeps blowing main fuse box outside when using the oven, stove top , microwave and jug all at once, oven racks did not fit the oven, pressure in shower is slow, heater fan in bathroom not working, basin tap loose, dining table all sticky, needing new pegs, laundry room is a shambles, open rubbish bags stacked out the back yard, big truck parked outside on main road hazard in and out of driveway, needing proper curtains on front and back doors, only 3 dining chairs, evident knives used for drug use, lack of utensils, bowls, pots in the room for a family room, returned items stunk of spices, lack of cleanliness around the outside.

The space was decent sized. The balcony was great. The hosts were nice. The car was covered in a carport under our family suite.

The shower had a fair bit of mold. The toilet walls were dirty. The walls around the oven weren't very clean, nor were the window sills in the kitchen.

Clean, good location, good price

Booked for 7 adults, definitely didn't have the beds available for that many, fold out couch isn't much bigger than a single bed, had to use blow up mattress we fortunately had with us.
