Camino Real Antigua

The property is absolutely beautiful and well situated in Antigua, making it easy to walk, or take an Uber (along the unbelievably BUMPY cobblestone roads of the city ) anywhere you need to go in town. Unfortunately , there were several basics that were missed that cause the 4 star rating: (1) we didn’t have shampoo / conditioner/soap when I went to take a shower the first morning, and unfortunately didn’t notice this when we initially checked in (after an incredibly long and exhausting day of travel). I went to the front desk to ask for some , they said housekeeping would bring it right away - but it took close to 1.5 hours to have it delivered . (2) The air conditioning never cooled our room cooler than 75 degrees Fahrenheit (based on the room thermostat). I called about this the second day but nothing seemed to change and the room was uncomfortably warm at night and actually got warmer during our stay. The temperatures outside during the day were over 80 degrees so the room was slightly cooler than the outside temperature at day but very warm at night. (3) The gym had several broken pieces of equipment - the stair machine and elliptical were not working and the steam room did not work. (4). The ice machine was not working, and had a laminated sign on it to indicate it wasn’t working - so it appeared to be a long standing problem. (5) Upon check-out, the front desk associate said I was over charged and would require that she keep a picture of my credit card to fix the charges later. I wasn’t comfortable letting her take a picture (with her personal phone) so she wrote down the number instead (?). (6) We were only given 1 room key when we checked in. I went to the desk the next day for an additional room key. I only had to give my last name and room number to get another key to my room. It made me very uncomfortable I wasn’t asked for ID since this was a different associate that who had checked us in / I had not previously met her. The overall property is absolutely beautiful and well maintained. We ate in the restaurant twice for the morning buffet and it was delicious and the staff extremely courteous. Unfortunately, a few of the basics for us were missed (being able to take a shower the first morning, not having functioning air conditioning, and broken equipment in the gym). I’m rating it a 4 (instead of 3) star due to how beautiful the overall property is.

Pasillos no muy amplios

No air conditioner. Hot as hell.

There is so much good about the property. Staff, cleanliness, ambiance of the open spaces and location. Just wonderful.

Unfortunately the AC broke and are stay was for a week but we didn’t get a fan until after our 5th night. Front desk kept telling us it was going to be fixed at first. There was a dog apparently at the next door property that lives there so if you are in a 2 story suite in the 100’s or 200’s room numbers you will here it barking every night from midnight until 3am or so. Pick a different area of hotel.

There was one main bartender on two separate occasions who charged us double the amount for simple drinks because she took it upon herself to assume that we wanted too shelf tequila in the mixed drinks (margaritas and tequila sodas). This did not just happen to me, it happened to the rest of the wedding party I was with. This is a very unprofessional move that does not belong with such a nice and friendly resort otherwise.
