Cedars Inn by Greene King Inns

All very good ,

The Mac Cheese, and the Lasagna were very very small.

Most of the rooms are in a separate block, away from the bar and restaurant, which were very busy when we arrived. There was parking nearby. The receptionist who checked us in was friendly and helpful. The room was nicely decorated, the bathroom had an excellent shower. It was easy to find and convenient for travelling into Barnstaple in the evening.

There are 3 adjustable lights in the room, two by the beds. However, none of them could be made to stay at a convenient height for reading, and without them the light was poor. Daylight came into the room very early in the morning, round the edges of the blind and through the glass panel on the downstairs door. The fan in the bathroom was very noisy and ran on for a considerable time after the light was switched off. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, largely due to there only being one member of staff, a duty manager I think, available to serve it.

Good location, in very pleasant grounds, only a few hundred meters from bus stops. Easy to get to Appledore, Westward Ho!, Croyde Bay, Ilfracombe and Bideford. Buses stop right outside train station, so possible to arrive by bus, if cases not too big. Just off a fairly busy road but could barely hear the traffic. Room seemed to have been refurbed recently. Breakfasts were very good, apart from running out of smoked salmon on our last day. All staff were friendly and helpful.

Roman blinds in room didn’t work properly: they need to be restrung -lots of knots and cord missing. Sink was cracked. We were asked if we’d like our room freshened up each day. We said we would. On our return after the first day, the bed had not been made. It seems that all that had been done was that the bins had been emptied and the coffee and milk topped up and a coffee cup with a cracked handle replaced. I know that things in hospitality are tough but think that the hotel should make it clear that rooms will not be serviced every day.

-Chambres (au rez-de chaussée) sans doute un peu bruyantes si vous avez des gens au dessus de la vôtre (c’était des amis alors ça allait ) -Look un peu désuet mais du charme -Aurait peut-être besoin d’un petit coup de peinture pour le rendre plus pimpant à l’extérieur -manque de prises électriques autour du lit -éloigné du centre-ville

Good location

The toilet cistern kept flushing every half an hour through the night (room 4) a little annoying, but I got used to it. Receptionist was rude when I arrived and made me feel unwelcome and practically called me a liar because I hadn’t put on my booking I had a dog. I did not see that this was required and said so but she even said ‘ you booked on booking.com so I know for a fact it tells you’ she made me quite cross really. Why would I drive 350 miles and risk not having a room?

The Cedars is set in beautifully landscaped gardens. Very peaceful. The room was clean and very comfortable. Plenty of sockets and good amount of tea, coffee and sugar.

Nothing to dislike.

We were in room in main house, huge comfortable bed, plenty of space in room. Plenty of tea and coffee, en suite clean and working well. Staff friendly, good breakfast and good food in restaurant also. We slept well.

Bit busier than we realised but its a credit to the hotel that it is so busy...pub/restaurant/hotel/party venue.
