Always a pleasure staying at Madigan. Easy to deal with, easy to book, comfortable accommodation for a reasonable price, close to everything.

"Comfy homestead in beautiful surrounds"

10.0

We stayed in the Homestead - it is well away from the other cottages, so quiet and private. Plenty of space in the home with a big kitchen/dining area and separate lounge area. 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, the garage transformed into a pool table room (including couches and a fridge!) - we had a fantastic stay!

"A Good Option"

Madigan Wine Country Cottages are very well place if your touring the Hunter Region. We found the cottages very comfortable and had everything we needed for our weekend away. The Barn was well set up for families.

"Just a port in a storm"

6.0

We were at Madigan while having our floor replaced at home, so we were very happy to find a pet friendly property in a nearby location for 3 nights. The cottages are in a delightful setting with acres of manicured lawn to walk around and 2 pretty dams, although our view was interrupted by a massive treatment plant which could easily be hidden by some low shrubs. Money needs to be spent inside and out and the tariff could still kept reasonable. There were old and rusting vine supports with no vines outside our cottage, Cellar Door, and an archway for climbers in the same condition. Inside the bed and pillows were quality and comfortable and the shower was lovely, full and instantaneous. I only give 3 stars for cleanliness because there is a leaky pipe in the kitchen with water flowing down to the sump, and a general somewhat griminess. The keycode box fell off when we tried to get in the first time, but the key came down with it so we weren't locked out. It seems the previous guests had broken it, but we were not told in advance. But, the cottage met our needs. We would have been a bit disappointed if it had been part of a holiday trip though. Rating the hotel staff was not possible as the owners and staff are off site, so I gave that 3 as well as it is a required field.

"A peaceful location in the heart of the Hunter"

6.0

A quaint cottage but in need of some TLC. Cobwebs hanging from the wooden beams greeted us as we arrived late afternoon but it was lovely set out with the loft bedroom being a favorite. The animals that visited us was a bonus especially the horses! Any tips offered would be to rectify the stove top, only one burner worked, which made it hard to cook for 4, and not enough serving dishes in kitchen, and also no champagne glasses, it was a special occasion for us and did not taste the same out of wine glasses. We had a great weekend and can recommend it for short stays.

"Tired fittings and fixtures"

8.0

Rules and regulations were a hassle. It felt like we were being monitored by big brother. Overall it was a pleasant stay the furniture and fittings were tired. There were no onsite staff only a telephone contact

"A bit shabby and run-down, poor administration"

4.0

Administration is haphazard and dysfunctional. The phone number given only gets you to a messaging service, and the promised call-backs are very hit-and-miss. There is no reception and we never saw anybody associated with the place, which meant that payment was just automatically taken from my Mastercard, without specific authorisation and with a 2% surcharge above the quoted price. We would have avoided this by paying cash if anybody came near us or told us about the surcharge. We had a bit of trouble finding and getting into our room on arrival, so we had to ring up and wait for a call-back, which fortunately came pretty quickly on this occasion. Madigans is not a working vineyard or winery - it is basically some cabins in a paddock with some long neglected vines. The Barn/loft cottage is basic and comfortable enough, but it is tired and run-down and too expensiive for what you get. Maybe that is just a function of the area, which is extremely popular. The "for lease" sign out the front hints that the establishment might be in a state of flux. The deposit taken and total cost ended up higher than those quoted on the Wotif booking.
