Beautiful modern lodge with gracious hosts. The property has a lot of indoor and outdoor public areas to relax with a glass of wine and book in hand. Rebecca and Jason are attentive, anticipating their clients needs, and are at the ready to make great dining and sightseeing recommendations. The private cedar hot tubs room side are to die for. Highly recommended.

We were only there for a night & were upgraded from a room in the lodge, to the cottage, due to Cyclone Gabrielle which was just beautiful. Luckily Jason was able to get a booking for dinner that night at The Hare & Copper Eatery plus transport which was a great recommend, although the cottage had full cooking facilities. Just loved the design of the lodge & cottage!

we stayed in the self-service cottage, it is a very clean, comfortable house with artistic decorations, and high-quality furniture. This is the house with the most tableware I've ever seen. It is beside the Tongariro river trail. just walk to fly fishing. the another highlight is the cedar spa pool.

A fantastic lodge steps from the Tongariro river hiking trails and 15 minutes from the National Park. Jason was a great host. Breakfast was excellent. They are very welcoming and share lots of information and provide access to local guides and equipment. High praise from us!

Beautiful and relaxing, both luxurious and cozy. We highly recommend the 5-course dinner for an additional fee. The hiking and rafting vendors that River Birches can book for you are also excellent.
