Admiralty Lodge Motel

We have had a booking for over 6 months with Admiralty Lodge. We went to confirm our check in time on the morning of our booking to find all communication is disconnected, including phone and email. After multiple phone calls to other hotels in the surrounding area, found out this place has closed down in late 2023 with no notice to patrons, nor any compensation for pre-paid bookings. If you’ve already booked, call your travel agent and insurance to get some compensation.

Phone number online and at the location doesn’t work, no reception on site to speak to, no email response after sending an email. We couldn’t check in and had to find another place to stay last minute the same day. 0/5 stars. Beware. Horrible experience.

Agree with other recent reviews. Great sea view, large toom, good for self-catering. Comfortable bed and good show. But that is it. It is run down and not particularly clean. The lack of reception and remote check in that does not want to be bothered is a problem. The noisey cookerhood and bathroom fan came on by themselves at 5:50 and stayed on until 21.55. There was no way of switching them off. Even the fuse box dis not stop them. And there was nobody to talk to about this. Room full of threatening messages about what you could not do. No soap and no plugs. First floor no lift - problem for suitcases . We moved out and found much better near by.

Overnight stay......what is good about this place? Great location, great views from upstairs rooms, really comfortable bed. Thats it.....the rest of this experience was disappointing and this started with the checkin as no reception and was managed by phone from somewhere!!! At one point we said forget it....however persevered and finally given the code to the wrong room key lock! When in the room it was very disappointing to see broken drawers in the wardrobe unit... mould on the shower curtain...broken dispenser for hand lotion..dirty ledge in the bathroom windows...corner shelf missing in bathroom ( brackets still in place) broken tiles in the bathroom...utensiles missing from the kitchen set on the wall....dirty carpet in front of the sofa...dirty top on the waste bin in the kitchen...and this all started trying to open the door which is not square in the door frame..we had to push the bottom in to lock it! We paid big $$$ for this unit and were extremely disappointed with what we got.

Not only is reception no available in reasons hours ( it does say this on the door ) but the after-hours number DOES NOT WORK. The kind girl Chloe who had finished her shift tried to help by providing another number for us to seek help however this was not answered either. The young girl then came to our aid well out of her hours and apologised. No way to run a business if the poor staff are not supported. Chloe made sure we had a comfortable stay best to her abilities.

Nice view of the beach having a private balcony was a plus

Great views and beach front, heated pool. Good proximity to beach, walkway and town. Locks were very tricky to open when entering room. Old furniture and attention to detail needs updating such as, marks on carpets, seals have peeling glue on door frames, patch ups on spa bath, water damage on cupboard. Cleaning and dusting things like conservatory windows and lamp would give a cleaner appearance. All in all a good stay which was convenient to beach and town.

Nice outlook from first floor with pool. albeit heating system was broken. Management appears to have little interest in presentation or customer concerns. The unit was dirty and obviously had not had a full clean for months. Long black hairs on floor from past guests, dirty toilet, bird poo on front windows, grime on window ledges and floor corners, Also broken light switch to bathroom, broken kitchen cupboards, kitchen extractor failed during stay, missing lamp to floor lamp etc. Just overall dirty, not fit for guests and not to standard, particularly during a pandemic. Motel appears to being run from cellphone in Auckland with local paid staff not able to action our concerns.

The young man at reception was very nice and helpful - room was good but very dated and basic.

Lovely clean room plenty of space. Staff washed and dried our washing for a small fee.
