Relais de Vincey

Hotel dans les standards annoncés, pas de mauvaises surprises. Facile d'accès depuis l'autoroute.

Our visit to the Relais de Vincey was unexpected as we were in a vintage car which unfortunately broke down. We booked in at the last minute and were given a reasonable room and a very good meal, despite the hotel hosting a large wedding party on a Saturday night. The owner's wife was very kind and offered to put our valuable car in her own garage. The decor is very modern, and may not be to everyone's taste, but it is bright and cheerful. They also have two swimming pools, one indoor and one outside. There is also a tennis court. The hotel lent us bicycles on the Sunday as we had no transport, and the owner very kindly took us to the next town, 10k away to go to a pizza restaurant, as the hotel restaurant is closed on a Sunday. What service! All in all, our rather unexpected stop in Vincey turned out to be quite a pleasant experience, and we would definitely recommend this hotel

The hotel itself was very nice, and family run with reception staff very welcoming. Good rooms, lovely pools, both outdoor and indoor, and a garden full of pet rabbits, roaming free - despite which our dog was welcome. We had less of a welcome in the hotel restaurant, however, where the waiter was rude. Whether he didn't like children or English people was unclear, but as our children were very well behaved and both myself and my Dad are bilingual in English and French, either dislike was unjustified. We were the first table to arrive by a couple of minutes, but we were the only people who were sat against the wall of the restaurant (all outside). All subsequent diners were sat at the more pleasant tables flanking the garden. This meant that the waiter was able to "give us his back" each time he came out to do his tour of the tables. It was impossible to attract his attention. He took our order in a very odd way, accepting the children's order (two blue steaks) first, and walking off before we were able to give the adults' orders. He then came back with the steaks and took the rest of the order. The children are 8 and 10, so perfectly able to wait for the adults. The rest of the order was then delivered in two steps, with my oysters (no cooking required) arriving a good five minutes after the other two dishes. On other tables, this didn't happen. A younger waiter gave normal, good service. But the main waiter was appalling. The food was also pretty expensive for what it was.

Recently modernised this family run hotel has an excellent restaurant and very modern facilities. There are tennis courts open in the summer and an indoor swimming pool. Breakfast is good (by French standards lol) with a bit more choice than the normal croissant, coffee & orange juice. Free WiFi!

This hotel is undergoing renovations and will, in a few years, be a pretty neat place. But for now (and reviews dating back to 2009 confirm this), the hotel is an unappealing construction site--noisy, dusty, ugly. We arrived to loud banging and drilling and found live wires hanging all over the place, including in the pool area! My child desperately needed an afternoon nap, which was impossible. We were told to go sit by the indoor pool if we wanted to rest. Odd. The room was extremely small (and I don't, as most North Americans, expect that they be big to start) and worse, the shower would not drain properly. The hotel is conveniently located right off the highway but that is all that it has going for it until they finish renovations. Then, it should be a cool artsy hotel, though still with tiny rooms and over-priced restaurant food. I was so glad that were only spending one night here.
